“A monk should frequently reflect: ‘We have karma as our own possession. If we do good, we will receive good. If we do evil, we will receive evil.’” (Apinnhapaccavekkhana Sutta)
Defilements, karma, and results are the cycle that binds us in the round of existence. As long as our perfections (parami) are not yet complete, we still must face defilements, create karma, and reap its results. Thus, the journey of life becomes endless, without knowing where it begins, continues, or ends.
If one is born without a goal, life will be even more unstable and dangerous.
Having a clear goal—that we are born to cultivate perfections—is like a “crystal armor” that protects us. When we hold this firmly in our hearts, every crisis becomes an opportunity to build merit. Every breath we take has value. Every day that passes is filled with wholesome deeds. And this will lead us to true happiness and fulfillment in life.
