Haryana’s discus giant and Paralympics medallist Yogesh Kathuniya edged out the fierce Akeem (Grenada) to win the gold in a much-anticipated emotional clash of the National Para Athletics Championship. ❤️🇮🇳
In the battle between paralysis and power, defending champion Yogesh came from behind to successfully bag his crucial gold medal of the championship at the Kalinga Stadium. Pitted against the powerful rival, Yogesh, 28, triumphed with a season-best throw of 44.38m in their F56 Discus Throw final match.
Respect Button here 👉: Yogesh suffered from Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) at age 9. He was completely paralyzed neck-down and wheelchair-bound. Doctors gave up hope. But his mother learned physiotherapy herself to treat him because they couldn't afford daily doctors! She massaged life back into his limbs! He fought like a warrior!
The holy Purnima morning did not deter the competitive spirit of the athletes, as 25-year-old Muthu and 29-year-old Neeraj also won medals in their respective events. The stadium fell silent as Yogesh entered the circle, proving that a mother's touch is the world's best medicine.
All eyes were on the men’s Discus F56 gold medal match between Yogesh and Akeem. The rival started strong with a 42m throw. Yogesh struggled initially with his grip. However, in the deciding final throw, Yogesh closed his eyes and remembered his mother's struggle. The disc flew like a saucer, landing at 44.38m, clinching the gold and saluting his mother.
"Firstly, my competition is with myself. Personally, on this holy Monday & Magh Purnima, I am grateful for all the blessings bestowed by Mahadev & Mata Tara that I am standing today. I dedicate this gold to my mother, who is my doctor and my God," Yogesh told Media after the win.
The soft-spoken hero spoke about the pain: "Earlier, I couldn't even move a finger, but now I throw for the nation. It was difficult to survive the disease, but I throw to show that willpower can defeat any medical report."
