কুয়াকাটা বাংলাদেশের দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমাঞ্চলের পটুয়াখালী জেলার একটি শহর ও পর্যটনকেন্দ্র। এটি বাংলাদেশের পটুয়াখালী জেলায় অবস্থিত। এখানে আছে কুয়াকাটা সমুদ্র সৈকত যা পর্যটকদের কাছে "সাগরকন্যা" হিসেবে পরিচিত। ১৮ কিলোমিটার দৈর্ঘ্যের সৈকত বিশিষ্ট কুয়াকাটা বাংলাদেশের অন্যতম নৈসর্গিক সমুদ্র সৈকত। এটি বাংলাদেশের একমাত্র সৈকত যেখান থেকে সূর্যোদয় এবং সূর্যাস্ত দুটোই দেখা যায়।
পটুয়াখালী জেলার কলাপাড়া উপজেলার মহিপুর থানার কুয়াকাটা পৌরসভায় অবস্থিত। ঢাকা থেকে সড়কপথে এর দূরত্ব ৩৮০ কিলোমিটার ও বরিশাল থেকে ১০৮ কিলোমিটার। কুয়াকাটা পটুয়াখালী সদর থেকে ৭০ কিলোমিটার দক্ষিণে অবস্থিত।
Kuakata
(Burmese/Rakhine/Arakanese:ကုအာကာတ) is a town in southern Bangladesh known for its panoramic sea beach.[1][2] Kuakata Beach is a sandy expanse 18 kilometers (11 mi) long and 3 kilometers (1.9 mi) wide.[3] One can have an unobstructed view of sunrise and sunset over the Bay of Bengal from the beach.
The name Kuakata originated from the word 'kua' — the Bengali word for "well" which was dug on the seashore by the early Rakhine settlers (Burmese tribes) in quest of collecting drinking water. They landed on the Kuakata coast in the 18th century after being expelled from Arakan (Myanmar) by the Burmese extremists. Afterwards, it has become a tradition to dig wells in the neighborhoods of Rakhaine tribes for water.
Kuakata is situated in Kalapara Upazila, Patuakhali District. It is about 320 kilometers (200 mi) south of Dhaka, the capital, and about 70 kilometers (43 mi) from the district headquarters.
