Purity and colour indication of gold: What is the difference between 24K, 22K and 18K gold?

Different carats of gold:

The word karat is used to measure the content or purity of gold. Before we can tell the difference between 24K, 22K and 18K gold, you need to know what your cart is. Carat is basically a unit used to measure the purity of gold. The more carats, the purer the gold. Here is a simple guide to understand the difference between 24K, 22K and 18K gold.

24K gold:
24k gold is called pure gold or 100 percent gold. This means that all 24 parts of gold are pure gold without any other metal markings. It is known to be 99.9 percent pure and has a distinctive bright yellow color. There is no value of gold more than 24K and before you go to any seller you need to be aware that they can tell you that they are selling you 25K or 26K gold. Since it is the purest form of gold, naturally it is more expensive than 22K or 18K gold. However, the density of this type of gold is lower than that of lower carat gold which makes it softer and more flexible. Therefore, it is not suitable for ordinary jewelry. Coins and bars are often purchased in 24K gold purity. 24K gold is used in electronics and medical equipment such as gold Hymenotomy tubes used to attach to the ears of infected children, which are known to improve air quality in the middle ear.

22k gold:
22K gold jewelry means that 22 parts of the jewelry are gold and the other two parts are some other metal. This type of gold is commonly used to make jewelry. Out of 100 percent of 22K gold, only 91.67 percent is pure gold. The remaining 8.33 per cent are other metals such as silver, zinc, nickel and other alloys. The addition of these metals makes the gold structure harder so that the jewelry is durable. However, you must know that although this gold can be used to make jewelry, 22K gold is not good for diamond and heavy jewelry.

18k gold:
18K gold 75 percent gold mixed with 25 percent other metals such as copper or silver etc. Usually heavy jewelry, rich jewelry and other diamond jewelry are made of 18K gold. This type of gold is less expensive than 24K and 22K. The color of this gold is slightly dull. 18K jewelry is rather easy to recognize - you will see 18K, 18Kt, 18k or an impression on this thing. Occasionally, the 18K gold number is imprinted with 750, 0.75 or so, which is used as a symbol of 75% gold jewelry.

How is purity calculated?
In the west karat is expressed in purity. For example 1000 parts of 24 k gold 1000 is expressed as 1000 or purity 1.000. 22k in 22k divided by 24 is multiplied by 1000 which will give you purity of 0.9166, 21 karat 21 divided by 24 will be multiplied by 1000 which will be 0.875 purity and similarly 18 carat will be 0.750 purity.

Different colors of gold:
The natural bright color of pure gold of 24 carat gold and its color purity cannot be changed without changing from 24K. Other colours of gold can be made by changing the type of alloy in the jewelry. Pink gold, for example, is made by adding more copper to gold alloys. Similarly green gold is added to zinc and silver and white gold is added to nickel. Electro-plating can also be used to color gold. But it can only be a top beauty and will rise over time.

24 carat gold contains 24 parts pure gold. Of the 22 carat gold, 22 parts are gold and 2 parts of other metals are added as alloy. 21 carat gold contains 21 parts gold and three parts of other metals. The 18 carat gold contains 18 parts of pure gold and 6 parts of other metals. In the west karat is expressed in purity.
For example 1000 parts of 24 k gold 1000 is expressed as 1000 or purity 1.000. In the case of 22k 22 is divided by 24 and multiplied by 1000 which will give you purity of 0.9166, 21 carat 21 will be multiplied by 1000 by dividing 21 by 24 which will be 0.875 purity and similarly 18 carat will be 0.750 purity.
