ADHD May Raise Dementia Risk

A new study reveals that adults with ADHD show biological changes in the brain that resemble early-stage dementia, including elevated iron levels and increased neurofilament light chain (NfL) in the blood.

These markers are commonly associated with neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Using advanced MRI imaging, researchers found excessive iron accumulation in specific brain regions of ADHD patients, particularly the precentral cortex.

Dopamine Circuit in Brain Found to Drive Male Ej*******on

Researchers have discovered that dopamine activity in the ventral shell of the nucleus accumbens (vsNAc) is crucial for coordinating the sequence of sexual behaviors in male mice, from initial interaction to ej*******on.

Using fiber photometry, the team tracked dopamine input patterns during behaviors like sniffing, mounting, and intromission.

They found that dopamine levels in the vsNAc fluctuated rhythmically during intromission, mirroring the mouse’s movement.

This rhythmic dopamine input was regulated by acetylcholine neurons, and artificially activating these neurons could trigger ej*******on.

The final intromission before ej*******on produced a distinct dopamine pattern, suggesting it acts as a neural cue.

These findings shed light on the neural circuitry underlying ej*******on and suggest new pathways for treating sexual dysfunction associated with psychiatric disorders and medications.
