Jihad means to struggle. Jihad is an effort. For example, a person's soul sometimes tempts him do something wrong. Fighting with yourself in these moments and stopping yourself from doing anything immoral is jihad. You may listen to harsh words from your neighbour or people you work with. You may have a bitter experience with a relative or friend. But you stop yourself from an angry outburst. You still maintain good relations with them. You behave kindly even when people don't behave well with you. This will be a jihad on your part. In religious terms, it will be an effort which you will be rewarded for.

The Prophet ﷺ has said that if you have done backbiting about a person, you should pray for him. This will compensate for the backbiting you have done. What is backbiting? It is to speak badly about a person in his absence. It is discuss a person's shortcomings and weakness when he is not present. If you do backbiting, you show that you don't wish good for that person. After you have made the mistake of backbiting, you must now compensate by having well-wishing for that person. One of the ways of wishing well for this person is to pray for him. This will help in making amends for the damage you have done.
