77-Year-Old Teacher Retires to Sea, Begins 15-Year Cruise Ship Adventure
Sharon Lane, a 77-year-old retired high school teacher from California, has left behind her traditional retirement community for life at sea—literally.
She recently moved aboard the Villa Vie Odyssey, a residential cruise ship that will travel the globe over the next 15 years.
Lane, who taught foreign languages, says the decision made both emotional and financial sense.
“It costs less than staying in a California retirement home—and someone else does the cooking and cleaning,” she shared.
For a one-time fee of $129,999 and a monthly payment of $2,999, she now enjoys all-inclusive access to meals, Wi-Fi, housekeeping, and endless entertainment.
The ship is expected to visit 425 ports across 147 countries, offering Lane a dream retirement filled with culture, adventure, and comfort.
