Handa Industries to Invest $250 Million in Bangladesh, Create 25,000 Jobs

Japanese company Handa Industries is set to invest $250 million in Bangladesh’s apparel sector, with plans to generate employment for around 25,000 people.

As part of the first phase, an $80 million land lease agreement will be signed on Wednesday to establish a garment factory in the Mirsarai Economic Zone. Further developments under this investment plan are expected to unfold in the coming phases.

নিটার শিক্ষার্থীদের ক্যারিয়ার গঠনে ইপিলিয়নের সহযাত্রা

২৯ জুলাই ২০২৫, নিটার ও ইপিলিয়ন গ্রুপের মধ্যে পাঁচ বছরের সমঝোতা স্মারক (MoU) নবায়ন করা হয়েছে। এই চুক্তির আওতায় নিটারের শিক্ষার্থীরা ইন্টার্নশিপ, ইন্ডাস্ট্রিয়াল ভিজিট, ক্যারিয়ার কাউন্সেলিং ও চাকরির সুযোগ পাবেন।

অনুষ্ঠানে নিটারের পক্ষে স্বাক্ষর করেন পরিচালক ড. আশেকুল আলম রানা এবং ইপিলিয়নের পক্ষে জিএম (এইচআরএম) মো. শওকত ইকবাল। বর্তমানে ইপিলিয়নে ৩২ জন নিটারিয়ান কর্মরত আছেন। দুই প্রতিষ্ঠান ভবিষ্যতে সম্পর্ক আরও শক্তিশালী করার আশাবাদ ব্যক্ত করে।

Bangladesh Showcases Strength in Apparel and Textiles at Texworld NYC 2025

Bangladesh successfully participated in Texworld NYC 2025, one of the largest textile and apparel sourcing exhibitions in the United States, held at the Javits Center, New York City, from July 23 to 25, 2025. The event brought together over 424 exhibitors from 26 countries, focusing on sustainable sourcing, ethical production, and innovation in textiles and fashion.

Three Bangladeshi companies—24/7 Sourcing Private Limited, GenXt International, and Just James BD Ltd.—represented the country, highlighting Bangladesh’s growing capabilities in fashion apparel and denim manufacturing. Their participation reflected the nation's strong position as a global sourcing hub, known for its competitive pricing, quality products, and commitment to sustainability.

The exhibition floor was filled with global suppliers showcasing cutting-edge materials, eco-friendly solutions, and innovative design concepts. Buyers from across North America and beyond showed keen interest in Bangladeshi products, which ranged from trendy fashion items to durable denim collections.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rakib, CEO of 24/7 Sourcing Pvt Ltd, said, “We are very happy with the outcome of the fair. We met several new buyers and received positive feedback.”
Ms. Rizvana Hredita, CEO of GenXt International, shared, “It was a successful event for us. The response from buyers exceeded our expectations.”

By joining other leading sourcing nations such as China, India, Vietnam, Pakistan, and Turkey, Bangladesh reaffirmed its position as a reliable and future-ready supplier in the global apparel industry.

Texworld NYC 2025 once again demonstrated that Bangladesh is not just a key player in volume-based manufacturing but is also rapidly advancing in value-added, sustainable, and innovative textile solutions.

New Water Benchmark Set for Denim Dyeing

Transformers Foundation, in collaboration with Naveena Denim Ltd. (NDL) and the Indigo Council, has introduced the first cross-sector water usage benchmark for indigo dyeing. Based on data from seven mills across Pakistan, Turkey, Italy, and China, the report provides verified baseline and best-practice metrics for rope and slasher dyeing systems.

Industry experts, chemical suppliers, and machinery manufacturers like Morrison and Karl Mayer contributed to the project, with validation from bluesign® and DyStar. The study reveals wide variations in water use, especially in post-dye washing stages, and emphasizes efficiency through smart water management and consistent process control.

The benchmark supports brands and mills in demonstrating transparent, data-driven sustainability efforts, moving beyond vague environmental claims.

ঢাকায় বিজিএমইএ কমপ্লেক্সে ডেনিশ রাষ্ট্রদূত ক্রিশ্চিয়ান ব্রিক্স মোলার ও বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খানের মধ্যে বৈঠক অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। বৈঠকে বাংলাদেশে তৈরি পোশাক শিল্পের বর্তমান অবস্থা, বৈশ্বিক বাজার পরিস্থিতি, টেকসই উন্নয়ন ও জিএসপি প্লাস চ্যালেঞ্জ নিয়ে আলোচনা হয়।

রাষ্ট্রদূত জানান, ডেনমার্ক মোট জিডিপির ০.৭% উন্নয়নশীল দেশের জন্য ব্যয় করে এবং এ প্রতিশ্রুতি অটুট রয়েছে। তিনি এনার্জি অডিট, সৌর প্যানেল স্থাপন ও শিল্পের জ্বালানি সাশ্রয়ে ডেনিশ সহায়তার কথা জানান।

বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি ডেনিশ ব্র্যান্ডগুলোর সহযোগিতা এবং একটি統িত আচরণবিধি গঠনে রাষ্ট্রদূতের ভূমিকা কামনা করেন। এছাড়া CREATE, PACT ও SWITCH2CE প্রকল্পের অগ্রগতিও আলোচনায় উঠে আসে।

বৈঠকে বিজিএমইএ সহ-সভাপতি মো. রেজোয়ান সেলিম ও পরিচালক শেখ হোসেন মো. মোস্তাফিজ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

শিল্প খাতে জ্বালানি সাশ্রয়ে গুরুত্বারোপ, নীতিমালার অভাব তুলে ধরলেন বিশেষজ্ঞরা

ঢাকা চেম্বার অব কমার্স অ্যান্ড ইন্ডাস্ট্রি (DCCI) ও সাউথ এশিয়া নেটওয়ার্ক অন ইকোনমিক মডেলিং (SANEM) যৌথভাবে “বাংলাদেশের শিল্প খাতে জ্বালানি দক্ষতা” বিষয়ক এক ফোকাস গ্রুপ আলোচনার আয়োজন করে। এতে বক্তারা বলেন, দেশে জ্বালানি দক্ষতা নিয়ে এখনও নির্দিষ্ট সরকারি নীতিমালা নেই, যদিও ২০১৬ ও ২০২৩ সালে দুটি মাস্টার প্ল্যান করা হয়েছে।

DCCI সভাপতি তাসকিন আহমেদ বলেন, শিল্প খাতে নিরবচ্ছিন্ন জ্বালানি সরবরাহের অভাবে উৎপাদন ব্যাহত হচ্ছে। SANEM নির্বাহী পরিচালক ড. সেলিম রায়হান বলেন, দক্ষতা বাড়াতে প্রযুক্তি ও গবেষণায় গুরুত্ব দিতে হবে।

অনুষ্ঠানে বিইপিআরসি, পেট্রোবাংলা, বিপেক্সসহ বিভিন্ন সংস্থার প্রতিনিধিরা জানান, গ্যাস সরবরাহে ঘাটতি, এলএনজি আমদানির ব্যয় ও আমদানি নির্ভরতা দেশের শিল্প খাতে বড় চ্যালেঞ্জ। তারা স্থানীয় খনন বাড়ানো, নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানিতে বিনিয়োগ এবং শিল্পপ্রতিষ্ঠানে জ্বালানি দক্ষ যন্ত্রপাতির ব্যবহার বাড়ানোর আহ্বান জানান।

বক্তারা SME ও RMG খাতে সবুজ অর্থায়ন, কম শুল্কে জ্বালানি দক্ষ যন্ত্রপাতি আমদানি, এবং জোনভিত্তিক শিল্প পরিকল্পনার ওপর গুরুত্ব দেন।
