The album features a blend of avant-garde sounds, atmospheric Western themes reminiscent of Ennio Morricone, and Middle Eastern influences, resulting in an ominous yet strangely familiar and deeply emotional work. It is considered a great entry point for newcomers and a must-have for long-time fans.

In stunning fashion, Sun City Girls' final studio record caps a 27-year run for what many hail as the most bizarre, eclectic, and provocative musical trio ever assembled. From the delirious intro of "Ben's Radio" to the final drum crash of the title track, Funeral Mariachi delivers 11 well-crafted gems which display the refined studio production side of SCG shrouded in that otherworldly glow which has always separated the group from their contemporaries. Beyond the gorgeous folk and vocal styles which drive the album, there is a heavy retro Italian cinema influence, Arabic and Indonesian references, and a ghostly psychedelic moodiness throughout. Post-production and final mastering was completed by the Bishop Brothers after the untimely death of Charles Gocher in 2007 and the results will not disappoint followers of this impossible-to-describe unit. Funeral Mariachi provides a perfect introduction to the more melodic sector of the SCG universe surfacing, ironically, at the end of their career in the form of what someday should become one of the most beloved records they ever created.

Korb members Jonathan Parkes and Alec Wood have formed a prolific partnership over recent years, building up a catalogue of recordings on their own Dreamlord Recordings label under various aliases, including THE HOLOGRAM PEOPLE. Here the duo shifts it's attentions towards the world of Kosmische music and bubbling synths, global grooves and analogue soundscapes, all delivered so effortlessly it's hard not to fall for them. The influence of music from around the world is more than apparent : classic Anatolian funk rock in fine style, '70s Germany, and a wonderful sonic brew of Eastern funk and analogue synthesisers that deserves to be played in the hippest nightclubs with immediate effect !

Rare archival recordings of Iranian musicians from the early part of the 20th century. The music was painstakingly restored from 78s at Abbey Road studio in London. Ravishingly beautiful, achingly precious songs and instrumentals, ranging from two performances by the Royal Court Orchestra in 1906 - with futuristic, overlapping trumpets and exquisite clarinet improvisation - through to a hauntingly soulful Hafez setting by Moluk Zarrabi of Kashan, from 1933. There are eight selections from more than three hundred recordings made in 1909 above the Gramophone Company offices in City Road, London EC1, by the travelling Persian Concert Party - with chimes, castanets and rattles lighting up its rueful, imploring, besotted love-songs. 'I am crazy with envy of the dress asleep in your arms and the oils rubbed into your skin.' The backbone of the collection is a set of powerful performances by women, in defiance of the social stigma attached to professional musicianship. A singer calling herself simply Helen turns in some boozy Hafez wisdom: 'Keep your cards close to your chest. Kiss nothing except the lips of your beloved and the rim of a cup of wine. Let no one judge you.' The great Jewish tar-player Morteza Ney-Davud is featured as soloist and accompanist, besides a series of staggering improvisations by Abd- ol-Hoseyn Shahnazi, and an anonymous, red-raw tar solo from the South Caucasus, captured in Tiflis in 1912.
