WIM FANFARE was formed by Fred Van Hove in 1975 to announce the newly started annual Free Music Festival in Antwerp, Belgium. Together with his musical fellows Ivo Vander Borght, André Goudbeek & Cel Overberghe they emerged as the unruly street-arm of the Werkgroep Improviserende Musici (Workshop for Improvising Musicians).
Delivering a unique sound and blending the exuberance of a marching band with the unpredictability of free improvisation, WIM Fanfare brought raw, joyful musical jazz to city squares, parades and unsuspecting audiences.
This first time vinyl release ‘Free Music (1975 - 1988)’ documents a remarkable ensemble and lesser-known period in Fred Van Hove’s inimitable career.
With never before published photographs by Gérard Rouy and extra insert with drawing by Cel Overberghe and expanded liner notes.
Recommended if you like Fred Van Hove, Art Ensemble Of Chicago, Full Moon Trio, MLB3, Sun Ra Arkestra, Moondog, The Muppet Show Band going wild in the streets, Irreversible Entanglements, ICP Orchestra, Global Unity Orchestra & other excellent music.
Protopunk spirit and ace jazz misfits vibes!
