In Beaumont, Belgium, the newest outpost of invites you to truly disconnect. ICI was founded in 2018 with the aim of creating innovative, sustainable get-away retreats rooted in social and ecological awareness. After their treehouses and converted stables, ICI On the Water is their third project, and the first that appear to float.

Designed by architect Toon Haverhals, the floating cabins are built like compact black volumes that seem to hover above the surface of the Meuse valley, as if dropped from the sky. The mirrored glass façades create a trompe-l’oeil effect, blending the cabins into their surroundings. ‘On one side, a generous recess cuts through the façade’, says Haverals. This sheltered terrace is fully finished in dark wood. The oak parquet flooring flows seamlessly across the floor, walls, and ceiling, ‘wrapping it in a cocoon-like embrace.’

Inside, a calming atmosphere prevails: matte black MDF panels, soft fabrics, a muted palette and subtle details create a sense of stillness. ‘The interior is complemented by the occasional accent colour to maintain a soft, cosy and tranquil atmosphere’, Haverals explains. Also the 3.60m bed, custom-built and raised like a platform, adds to the sense of stillness. Framed by the architecture, it offers a front-row seat to the landscape outside.

More to come: in a later phase, ICI will introduce stilt cabins and floating cabins on a new man-made lake.

Trained in economics before diving into woodworking, designer Lucas Gioux follows a free and intuitive path between Brussels and Lisbon. A talent to watch, without a doubt. .gioux

He could have stayed in an office - instead, he chose the workshop. At 34, Lucas Gioux has traded Excel spreadsheets for wood shavings, after a winding journey through evening classes at an academy, internships in Portugal, and cabinetmaking training in Brussels.
« I don’t have a very rational explanation, » he says about his attraction to wood. More of an intuition, nurtured by forest walks and a need to create with his hands.

Biarritz, where the Grande Plage meets Belle Époque villas, exudes a skilful blend of seaside elegance and joyful nonchalance.

Perched above the Atlantic, the Regina Experimental stands as one of the city’s historic landmarks. Inaugurated in 1907, the hotel recently underwent a renaissance thanks to the Experimental Group and interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon.

Then there’s Villa Magnan. A refuge, a place to escape from the outside world—just as its owner Anne Israël mischievously puts it. Hard to define: Villa Magnan must be lived, felt. It’s neither a hotel nor a B&B, but a vibrant, ever-evolving place—so beautifully imperfect, and that’s exactly what makes it so appealing.

In the city centre, Chéri Bibi has quickly become a cult favourite. In a vintage setting with 1950s accents, generous, unfussy dishes are meant to be shared. That evening: devilled eggs, a selection of Getaria anchovies with burnt lemon cream, slow-cooked lamb with spices…

About twenty minutes from Biarritz, Elizaberriko Etxeberria offers a true gourmet getaway in the heart of the Basque countryside. In this rustic inn, the cuisine celebrates local produce with freedom and creativity.

And finally, head to Guéthary for a laid-back break at Paz e Arroz, perched on the Alcyons jetty facing Parlementia. Inspired by Brazil and Mexico, this colourful food truck run by Charles Foussadier serves up meat or veggie tacos, fish moqueca, black coconut rice, croquettes, and tapioca Brazilian rice pudding.

Whether historic or under the radar, inventive or rooted in terroir, these stops invite you to savour, under the Basque sun, a getaway that’s as delicious as it is inspiring.

Copenhagen’s has become a summer staple for the global design scene. This year’s edition (June 18–20) delivered bold colours, tactile materials and thoughtful collaborations. We spotted many familiar faces, but here’s three Benelux brands that caught our eye:

1. Jeroen De Ruddere
Belgian designer Jeroen De Ruddere presented his full collection of handcrafted interior objects and lighting for the first time in Copenhagen. Working with noble materials like oak, walnut, mahogany, and solid bronze, he creates sleek yet warm pieces that balance function and sculpture. The CL140, FL4, FL5 (including the FL5 Bronze), and SL170 show a deep respect for craft and form. Each object is made by hand and carries a strong, timless presence.

2. Auping × Teklan
Dutch bed-maker Auping teamed up with Swedish colour specialist Tekla Evelina Severin ( ) to launch ‘Characters by Teklan.’ With bold new bedroom colours like Burgundy, Mustard, Pastille Green, and matching reversible textiles, the collection treats colour as a character. Burgundy brings refinement, Mustard feels cozy, and Pastille Green bursts with youthful energy. Debuting in Copenhagen and arriving in stores this autumn, it proves that personal expression belongs in the bedroom, too.

3. Bieke Casteleyn
Belgian designer Bieke Casteleyn, trained in Ghent and Milan, was selected for Design / Dialogue by Ark Journal. Her ongoing Out of Line series, which explores form, texture and materiality through cement plaster, suede leather and high-gloss finishes, continues to evolve. After introducing a sofa collection in 2024, she presented new sculptural pieces in 2025: calm, confident, and rooted in quiet contrast, much like the atmosphere of Copenhagen that inspired them.

This summer, Antwerp is a magnet for contemporary art and design. Here are five art shows that are hot topic right now.

1. Summer in the City at VCRB Gallery & /THE PLATFORM
Starting today, nine artists explore time, identity and urban memory through photography, painting and sculpture. Among them: Belgian photographer , Polaroid creator , fragments; and .artworks, known for sculpting delicate characters in biodegradable plasticrete. Housed in a beautifully restored warehouse in Antwerp’s museum district, the show invites you to slow down and look closer.

2.Panamarenko – Reis naar de sterren at M HKA
As part of the Panamarenko85 celebrations, M HKA presents Reis naar de sterren, a focused exhibition dedicated to the visionary Belgian artist and inventor. Flying ci**rs and electromagnetic experiments, Panamarenko’s cosmic imagination takes centre stage through original works, prototypes, sketches and archival material from his former home and studio.

3. Arno Declercq invites Harry Morgan at Studio Arno Declercq
For two days only, Belgian designer .arnodeclercq opens his Antwerp showroom for a duo show with British artist .insta, curated by Modern Shapes Gallery. Brutalist furniture meets sculptural glass and concrete. A raw, elegant dialogue between opposites. Design lovers, mark your calendars.

4. Sunset Ketchup by Romain Laprade at Gallery FIFTY ONE TOO
lands in Belgium for his first solo show here. In Sunset Ketchup, architecture becomes cinematic, light becomes the narrator, and empty spaces quietly command attention. With his graphic eye and architectural sensibility, Laprade captures the strange beauty of the everyday.

5. It Girls at Gallery Sofie Van de Velde
At Gallery Sofie Van de Velde, artist Natasja Mabesoone explores the subversive softness of domesticity. Through monotypes, etchings, and prints made with her own body, she investigates how power and vulnerability move through materials. Glitter, fake tattoos and makeup sit alongside classical print techniques, reimagined as tools of quiet resistance.

Talking about a love at first sight 🍒

Josef and Anni Albers, the iconic Bauhaus duo, are finally on show in an Belgian exhibition paying tribute to this couple who never shied away from a challenge.

⏩️ Josef met Anni Albers on the benches of the avant-garde school in the 1920s and their marriage led to one of the most important legacies in modernism: from square paintings and furniture to the design of textiles, once considered handicrafts. The design manufacturer Knoll trusted Anni later to develop a textile collection.

Influenced not only by the German school, but also by pre-Columbian art and American pre-minimalism, it’s a concentrate of this history that takes place at the Boghossian Foundation in Brussels, interacting more than 100 artworks with this landmark.

The icing on the cake is a special boutique featuring reprints and reissues, and a showcase of contemporary creatives inspired by this eternal couple.

Don’t miss out until September 8th.
