Valentin Dongmo Elected MANIDEM President After Anicet Ekane's Death
Valentin Dongmo has been elected president of the African Movement for New Independence and Democracy (MANIDEM), succeeding the late Anicet Ekane, the party announced on Thursday.
Dongmo, who previously served as MANIDEM's first vice president, was elected during a party meeting before the unveiling of a new executive bureau at a press conference on July 30.
MANIDEM drew national attention during the 2025 presidential election after sponsoring the candidacy of Professor Maurice Kamto for the October 12 presidential poll. The party's leadership transition follows the death of long-time president Anicet Ekane, a veteran opposition figure who led the movement for several years.
The newly elected president is expected to steer the party through its next political chapter alongside the new executive bureau unveiled during Thursday's press conference.
