In Tarot, a three card spread can represent the past, the present and the future. The cards in Tarot do not predict what will happen, but rather provide a tool for reflection. The number three returns in the album’s title: three sister words whose meanings are intertwined. A grimoire is a manual for invoking demons, containing spells, rituals and instructions for manufacturing magical tools. Its name is thought to be derived from the French grammaire (“incantation, grammar”). The word glamour can be traced back to the Scottish glamer, meaning magic or enchantment. This in turn is a variant of gramarye - an alteration of the English grammar as scholarship, especially occult learning. Of course, there is also a form of magic to be found in grammar itself as language can cast spells, tell stories, and enchant us. The sounds, songs and incantations collected on Glamour, Grammar, Grimoire similarly beckon us in a dark and shimmery world that serves as a crooked mirror and allows for a reflection of our present situation.

live at Cellule 133a by Pavel Tchikov is out now.

On January 25, 2024 composer and multi-instrumentalist Pavel Tchikov performed an improvised set on modular synthesizer for La Semaine du Son ~ De Week van de Klank. The set starts off slowly with bubbling and dripping organic textures interspersed with burst of white noise and slowly builds to a staggering beat-driven crescendo all spatialized in quadraphonic sound. The improvisational nature of the performance provides us with it a snapshot of a singular moment in time. The composer enters into a dialogue with his instrument, his surroundings and of course with the audience. We are happy to be able to share this snapshot with you and hope that you too are able to enter in a dialogue with the sounds captured during this immense performance.
