Some conversations stay with you long after the recording ends — and this one with Helena Holrick was exactly that.

I wanted to invite Helena back as my first returning guest because so many people navigating their creative life hit a point where they feel stuck, uncertain, or strangely “not allowed” to want what they want.

We often talk about creativity in terms of output… but not enough about the inner landscape that shapes whether we move forward or put the brakes on.

In the episode, Helena puts language around things so many of us feel but rarely articulate — the pull between the part of you that sees the brightness of your future, and the part that’s scared because it remembers what was painful last time.

The pause. The resistance. The self‑sabotage that feels irritating but is actually protective.

That’s the gap this conversation fills.

Creative people aren’t short on ideas. They’re short on permission, support, clarity, and space to listen to themselves. And hearing someone name those internal dynamics out loud, calmly, compassionately, and without judgement, can be the difference between staying stuck and taking a small, brave next step.

Helena has helped me navigate those moments in my own journey. Her ability to help people slow down, notice what’s really happening, and reconnect with their energy and intention is something I believe more people need access to.

If you’ve ever felt torn between your ambition and your fear… between excitement and overwhelm… or like you’re the only one who gets in your own way — this episode might just be the permission you didn’t know you needed.

Two down, 148 to go…

Having been set the challenge of visiting as many of the '150 Bookstores you Need to Visit Before You Die' as possible, this is number two ticked off the list.

At the first Never Stop Reading in Zurich I picked up 'Night Swimmers' by Roisin Maguire, which I'm actually reading (and loving) on this trip to Brussels.

This time we popped in to Librairie Tropismes, handily close to our hotel and I left with 'Twilight in Italy' by DH Lawrence.

I wasn't looking for anything in particular but both the books chose me.

Travel writing and Italy are favourites of mine so perhaps that's why. Not that I need any more books but that's hardly the point.

I've also realised we've been to at least three others on the list on our past travels so I should probably log those when I get home too.

How do you choose your books? Do they ever jump into your hands too? 📚

Some of you may know that I had a big birthday recently, but that's not this story, although it is connected to these books...

The first 150 Bookstores, was a birthday present from my husband. We were headed off on a trip to Zurich the next day. Naturally I checked the index to see if there was a store for Switzerland, thinking it might be a long shot.

To my surprise I was delighted to see the one bookshop mentioned for the country was literally within walking distance of our hotel!

So naturally we paid a visit to Never Stop Reading.

It is as good as the entry suggests, a beautifully curated collection of architecture, photography and design books, along with a healthy selection of English literature.

I selected the second book, Night Swimmers along with another on design, both of which I'm very much looking forward to reading.

I'll let you know if I recommend them, but I can definitely recommend a visit to the store!

Gosh! It's not every day you receive such gorgeous flowers from a talented writer. Thank you so much for these and for being such a brilliant client.

Working with you over the last 6 months to achieve your writing goals has been my absolute pleasure.

Watch out world, a new superstar domestic noir/thriller writer is about to fill your bookshelves with stories you will always remember.

I am so proud of you Cara!
