For this festive Cello edition, we are incredibly proud to announce that the Fundació Pau Casals will loan the First Laureate the historic cello of the Catalan master, the “Casals” Goffriller (1733), for a period of four years ✨ Casals played the instrument for more than sixty years and fondly referred to it as "his dearest friend".

The coincidence of the 150th anniversaries of both Queen Elisabeth and Casals, in the very year the Competition is dedicated to the cello, offered an ideal opportunity to honor their unique bond by making this incomparable instrument available to the First Laureate of the Competition.

Following Pablo Casals' commitment to young musicians and his long friendship with Queen Elisabeth, the Pau Casals Foundation decided to loan his cello, the famous Goffriller ‘Casals’ (1733), to the First Laureate of the Cello Competition for a period of 4 years.

As from 2027, the audience prize 'Prix Musiq3' of the Queen Elisabeth Competition for Voice will be renamed after Jodie Devos, in tribute to the Belgian soprano.

As a tribute to the Belgian soprano Jodie Devos, the Musiq3 Prize will bear the name “Prix Musiq3 – Jodie Devos” during the next Voice Competition, scheduled for May 2027. The news is being announced on the day of the first gala concert organised by the Fund created in her memory.

It is with deep sadness that we have learned of the passing away of Alexei Moshkov, Konzertmeister of the Belgian National Orchestra.

We will remember his extraordinary artistry, his dedication and the many moments shared during the Queen Elisabeth Competition.

Our thoughts are with his family, loved ones, and the musicians and the whole team at the Belgian National Orchestra.
