DEXTER WANSEL (22AUG1950 - 31MAY2026) : 75 YEARS
ANOTHER LEGEND BITES THE DUST ...
Another prolific producer / artist and songwriter passed away. He probably delivered his best work at Philadelphia International Records where Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff were in need of a helping hand around the second half of the seventies ! Dexter signed, wrote, produced and delivered quality tracks. He wrote and produced the Jones Girls' "Nights Over Egypt" amongst so many others. That song really carries his trademark stamp ! He did not write "Love T.K.O." (Linda & Cecil Womack) but he produced the Teddy Pendergass version, making it far better known than the original sung by David Oliver ... Linda and Cecil still thank him for that ! As an artist, there is little doubt that his craftsmanship was at its peak in 1979 on the album "Time Is Slipping Away". The track "The Sweetest Pain" says it all ! The International music scene and more in particular the Soul and Jazz world has lost another legend !
