⚡️ Europe’s electricity demand is set to soar 60% by 2030 - but is our grid ready?

In this interview, MEP Anna Stürgkh breaks down the urgent need for:
🔹 Faster grid build-out
🔹 Digitalisation and smarter rules
🔹 Stronger cross-border projects

From Spain–Morocco links to North Sea hubs, the future of Europe’s energy transition depends on closing the gap between renewables and grids.

Bridging Europe’s Mobility Gaps 🌍

Europe’s transport is a patchwork quilt: high-speed trains in the west, ageing rail in the east; thousands of EV charging points in the Netherlands, just a few hundred in Cyprus.

But from mega rail projects to local bike paths, regions are finding creative ways to move sustainably:
🚆 Rail Baltica: an 870km electrified rail line connecting the Baltics to Poland & the EU, cutting huge emissions.
🚙 EV innovation: new projects making charging easier & fleets cleaner.
🚲 Cycling for resilience: from Utrecht’s “sniffer bikes” to bike lanes in Cyprus’ mountain villages.

REVOLVE joins World Cleanup Day! 🌍

Every year, millions of tonnes of plastic end up in our oceans, threatening marine life and our future. That’s why we’re coming together on Saturday, 20 September 2025 for the in Oostende.

📅 When: 20 September, 9:30 – 12:00
📍 Where: Proper Strand Lopers cabin, west of the western pier (Zeeheldenplein — just 10 minutes from the train station).

This event is part of a global movement coordinated by the European Union and in collaboration with the city of Oostende to show how communities can make a real difference.

Bring friends, family, or colleagues, everyone counts! Together, we’ll clean the beach, raise awareness, and show that Oostende cares about the ocean. 💙

Can Europe’s coasts help us fight climate change?

From the salt marshes of Cádiz to England’s tidal floodplains, scientists are testing whether blue carbon ecosystems, like marshes and seagrass meadows, can lock away carbon while protecting biodiversity and coastlines.

These blue carbon projects aren’t just about offsetting emissions: they’re about rewilding coastlines, creating natural flood defenses, and unlocking new ways to finance restoration.

👉 Read how the UK and Spain are pioneering new methodologies, and why the future of blue carbon might depend on moving from offsetting to contributing.

The time for Europe to lead on clean hydrogen is now.

Hydrogen can decarbonise where electrification cannot:
🔹 Green steel, fertilisers, and chemicals
🔹 Long-haul road, maritime & aviation transport
🔹 Grid balancing & long-term energy storage

However, only 4% of global hydrogen projects reached investment decisions in 2024, most in China.

Europe must accelerate in:
✅ Scale up EU and national funding mechanisms
✅ Ensure fast rollout of legislation
✅ Back the European Hydrogen Bank & IPCEI projects

“By planting these trees now, we will be able to sit in the shade of a robust, competitive hydrogen market for years to come” by Jorgo Chatzimarkakis⚡

🤝 Regional partnerships: working across borders to connect people and reduce emissions.

Sustainable mobility isn’t just a policy — it’s happening everywhere, at every scale. 🌱

How to make city heating smarter and more fair? 🔥

The EU-funded ESCALATE project is answering this that. Giulia Conforto is a Senior Researcher at e-think energy research. ESCALATE gives medium-sized cities the tools, training, and strategies to cut energy waste, swap fossil fuels for clean solutions, and make systems fairer for everyone.

From open-access learning platforms to on-the-ground support, the project is proving that with the right plan, financing and action follow.

💡 Future-proof cities start with smarter heating & cooling.

Did you know over 1.5 billion people rely on glaciers for water?

The cryosphere is shrinking fast, and its decline is reshaping our planet beyond mountain regions. From the 1.5 billion people who depend on glacier melt for water, to rising seas, and more extreme weather, what happens in the glaciers affects everyone, everywhere. 🌍

We spoke with , a geographer and glaciologist who has worked across the Alps, Himalayas, Andes, and Arctic. In our conversation, he explains:

👉 What the cryosphere really is
👉 Why its disappearance accelerates climate risks
👉 How new science and AI (through the EU-funded CryoSCOPE project) are helping us understand and prepare for what’s coming.
