Unknown Gunmen bomb Imo police division, kill officers

Yet to be identified gunmen on the early hours of Saturday set ablaze the Umuguma Divisional Police Headquarters situated in the Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo state.

The attackers also killed two police constabularies who were on duty. By name Ifeanyi from Umunkwo in Umuguma community a final year student at Imo state University in Owerri. He died on the spot. and also Iyke from Avu community. Who was shot on his legs

It was learnt that on arrival, the gunmen who came with guns and Explosive Ordinance Disposals immediately opened fire at the divisional headquarters after blocking the roads leading in and out of the station including the one close to the LGA council headquarters.

Our correspondent gathered that it took the effort of fire fighters from Owerri to quench the inferno.

The attack came few hours the Assistant Inspector General of police in charge of zone 9- Umuahia, Isaac Akinmoyede, left the state after a one- day working visit.

The spokesperson for the police in the state, Micheal Abattam, is yet to respond to the attack.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has narrated how it filmed the moment suspended Head of the Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, was negotiating a drug deal for the release of 25kg of co***ne and offered $61,400 cash to NDLEA officer.

NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday.

According to Babafemi, Kyari belonged to a drug cartel that operates the Brazil-Ethiopia-Nigeria illicit drug pipeline.

He said Kyari contacted an officer of the Agency in January 2022 and tried to seal a deal.

Babafemi said, “Let me give a synopsis of what transpired. The saga started on Friday, January 21, 2022, when DCP Kyari initiated a call to one of the NDLEA officers in Abuja at 2:12 pm. When the officer returned the call two minutes later, Kyari informed him he was coming to see him, to discuss an operational matter after the Juma’at service.

“He (Kyari) appeared at the agreed venue of the meeting with the officer and went straight to the crux of the matter. This was it: His team had intercepted and arrested some traffickers that came into the country from Ethiopia with, according to him

23 FLYOVERS IN LESS THAN SEVEN YEARS BY GOVERNOR DAVID UMAHI OF EBONYI STATE

So, three days ago, the bureau chief of a daily national newspaper contacted me to enquire if it is true that Governor Umahi has constructed about 10 Flyovers in Ebonyi State in the past 6 years. He made some observations about other states and how it is generally difficult to complete a flyover.

I responded thus:

It is correct that Governor Umahi’s administration has constructed more than 10 flyovers, there are 13 flyovers and 10 of the flyovers are double, which means that we have a total of 23 flyovers. One of the flyovers is 30 span, about 500m while another one has 6 entries and exits.

However, it should be understood that these flyovers are just a part of many other infrastructural, economic and educational transformations that are ongoing in Ebonyi State as the state takes pride in building the biggest and arguably the best and most beautiful Shopping mall in Nigeria - we call it the microcosm of the macrocosm of the Dubai Mall, the biggest and most beautiful international market that is fully deployed, the best and most beautiful University of Medical Sciences and hospital, an ongoing outstanding international airport, over 600 roads constructed on 8 inches concrete pavement, ongoing construction of an Olympic stadium, regular payment of civil servants, massive empowerment for the youths, farmers and widows; massive care for the less privileged, jobs creation and employment, security of lives and property, etc.

I also informed him that nothing has been done by Umahi’s administration that depicts any form of segregation of any zone or council areas as Governor Umahi believes in Ebonyi State as a state and not a segmented Ebonyi State. As the larger we are in unity, the better. This is equally his believe in Nigeria - a one united Nigeria.

It is best to say that Ebonyi State has become the rejected stone that is becoming the chief cornerstone as no stone is left unturned under Governor David Umahi.

After the above response, he lacked words for some time but later opined that in Umahi, a vibrant, active, and uniting president will emerge in 2023.
