Revealing the cover of my upcoming project : "KARIN LECHNER plays CÉCILE CHAMINADE" !
Cécile Chaminade is the most famous French female composer you have never heard of — a hugely popular voice of the late 19th century.
She was discovered by Bizet when she was only 12 years old; “One cannot suppress her genius,” he told her father. She sold thousands of copies of her songs and music, and performed to packed halls throughout Europe and America. She was invited to play several times by Queen Victoria at Windsor Castle and by President Teddy Roosevelt at the White House during her triumphant U.S. tour. Chaminade was the first woman composer to record her own music, and the first French woman composer to receive the Legion of Honour.
After the First World War, she almost completely disappeared...
In 'Cécile', a 75-minute performance, Karin Lechner recounts the moving life of Chaminade and, in her virtuosic style, performs the composer’s greatest hits.
Serving as the musical companion to the show 'Cécile', this album provides the perfect introduction to the rich musical world of Cécile Chaminade, brought vividly to life by one of today's foremost pianists : Karin Lechner (joined on some 4-hands works by her daughter Natasha Binder).

First review of "From Another World", the new album of the Guttman Tango Quintet !
"De Belgische violist Michael Guttman verzamelde vier internationale tangospecialisten: bandoneon, cello, contrabas en piano. Idiomatisch klopt daarom alles: een piano die met zijn baspartijen de contrabas overtroeft, een strijker die ritmes versiert met glissandi en geklop op het bovenblad.

Uomo sin fuego (naar Brahms’ Derde symfonie) begint met vurige cello-ostinato’s, gevolgd door een melancholische passage, een woeste uitbarsting en een jazzy pianosolo. Het is allemaal pure tangomuziek. In de verte spookt de geest van Brahms rond."

Belgian violinist Michael Guttman brought together four international tango specialists: bandoneon, cello, double bass and piano. Everything therefore sounds idiomatic: a piano whose bass lines outdo the double bass, and a string player who embellishes the rhythms with glissandi and taps on the soundboard.
Uomo sin fuego (after Brahms’s Third Symphony) begins with fiery cello ostinatos, followed by a melancholic passage, a furious outburst and a jazzy piano solo. It is all pure tango music. In the distance, the ghost of Brahms is haunting the music.
