Switzerland votes "no" in the referendum to cap the population at 10 million. The initiative, pushed by the right-wing nationalist SVP party as an anti-immigration measure, was rejected in the popular vote.

The major cities and French-speaking Switzerland played a significant role in the ‘no’ vote’s victory. In German-speaking Switzerland, with the exception of the major cities, the ‘yes’ vote fared better. In Italian-speaking Switzerland, the ‘yes’ vote won in Ticino, albeit by a narrow margin (50.7%), whilst in Graubünden (which is German/Italian-speaking) the ‘no’ vote won with 51.5%.

Switzerland today saved also its relationship with the European Union and its citizens.

Today, Swiss citizens are heading to the polls for a historic referendum that could permanently reshape Europe. The right-wing initiative "No to a Switzerland of 10 million!" wants to legally cap the country’s population.

What’s at stake?

👉 The EU Ultimatum: If the population ever crosses the 10-million mark, Switzerland would be constitutionally forced to terminate its free movement agreement with the European Union.
👉 Economic Isolation: Critics warn this could crash Switzerland's access to the EU single market and worsen massive labor shortages.
👉 Sovereignty: Supporters argue that infrastructure, housing prices, and public services are reaching a breaking point due to uncontrolled immigration.

This is a monumental vote for the future of European integration.

Right now, an official campaign called the STAR-PASS Initiative is underway to give EU citizens a historic new choice: an optional, EU-blue passport cover featuring the iconic circle of gold stars. 🇪🇺
