🎒 THE HISTORY OF GOING BACK TO SCHOOL

For generations, the end of summer has meant the same thing: children returning to the classroom.

But school wasn't always the way we know it today.

Wooden desks. Ink bottles. Strict teachers. Children learning by heart.

In Bulgaria, education became especially important after 1878, helping shape a new generation of the country.

The classrooms changed.
The clothes changed.
The school bags changed.

But that feeling of walking through the school gates for a new year remained.

And here's an interesting detail: September 1 is associated with the beginning of the school season in many parts of Eastern Europe, but in Bulgaria the official school year traditionally begins on September 15.

What do YOU remember most about your first day of school? 🎒

🇧🇬✈️ 31 AUGUST 2006 — SOFIA AIRPORT

A major milestone in Bulgarian aviation history.

Sofia Airport officially opened its new approximately 3,600-metre runway as part of a major modernization project.

The new runway and terminal transformed the airport and helped Sofia prepare for growing international passenger traffic.

Today, Sofia Airport is one of Bulgaria’s most important international gateways.

But its modern story took a major step forward on 31 August 2006.

📺 31 August 1998.

A small moment in Bulgarian television history.

On this day, NOVA Television began broadcasting around the clock.

For a generation growing up in the 1990s, the glowing CRT television was part of everyday life — and suddenly, the screen didn't have to go dark at night.

Do you remember watching Bulgarian television in the 1990s?

🇧🇬 What was your favourite show back then?

🎨 For two years, one of the world's most famous paintings was missing.

Edvard Munch's The Scream disappeared in 2004.

Then, on 31 August 2006, the painting was recovered.

It was found in better condition than many had feared, although conservators later discovered a stain that could not be completely removed.

Today, The Scream remains one of the most recognizable images in modern art.

But for two years… nobody knew where it was.

Would you have recognized it if you saw it during those missing years?

The curtain has fallen on one of the most unforgettable performers of our time.

Tim Curry — actor, singer, theatrical icon and the man behind some of cinema's most unforgettable characters.

From Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show to Pennywise in IT, Curry had a presence that simply couldn't be replaced.

His voice.
His timing.
His unforgettable performances.

The characters remain.

Rest in peace, Tim Curry.

A true legend. ❤️

🐯 THUNDERCATS… HO!

Before they became heroes, they were survivors.

Thundera was dying. Lion-O and the ThunderCats escaped into space and found themselves on a mysterious new world: Third Earth.

Then came Mumm-Ra.

Lion-O. Cheetara. Tygra. Panthro. WilyKit. WilyKat.

For an entire generation, these characters meant adventure, friendship and Saturday morning television.

But how much do you actually remember about ThunderCats?

⚔️ Who was your favorite ThunderCat?

🇧🇬 THE GESHOV INCIDENT — 30 AUGUST 1908

On this day in 1908, a seemingly minor diplomatic incident helped expose the increasingly fragile relationship between Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire.

Ivan Geshov, Bulgaria's diplomatic representative, was deliberately excluded from an Ottoman celebration in Constantinople.

The incident triggered a diplomatic reaction in Sofia.

But Bulgaria was already moving toward something much bigger.

Just weeks later, on October 5, 1908, Prince Ferdinand proclaimed Bulgaria's independence in Veliko Tarnovo.

From diplomatic humiliation to national independence — in just a few weeks.
