During the coming months, I will be recording tracks for a band that wants to release a vinyl ep. The choice has been made to record and mix entirely on 8-track cassette tape on a Tascam 488 MKII. Mixdown will be done to a digital file that will be digitally mastered for vinyl pressing at the pressing plant.
This old school workflow will deliberately limit options, so a lot has to be decided on and planned beforehand. It will most probably affect the eventual sound in many ways as well. Full focus will have to be on the recording process, as ‘fixing in the mix’ will be limited.
Excited about this adventure. We’ll see where it leads us.
