🚨Out today: YODOK III - Nidarosdomen

At the heart of Trondheim rises Nidarosdomen: Scandinavia’s great cathedral, the northernmost Gothic monument of the Middle Ages, built upon the resting place of Saint Olav. Within its stone walls
breathes the colossal Steinmeyer organ, 9,600 pipes of air and thunder. A space made not only for prayer, but for ritual.

When YODOK III was invited to perform in this sacred colossus, the idea of summoning Petra Bjørkhaug to the Steinmeyer organ arrived like an inevitability. To let the cathedral itself speak through her hands, to allow its immensity to swell and entwine with YODOK
III’s shifting tides of sound.

As a label it's sometimes hard to stay neutral in a way about releases but every moment we hear this one, we are still equal parts amazed and fascinated.

In anticipation of the new YODOK III album Nidarosdomen being released tomorrow, September 19th, we already received a review from the kind people at Avant Music News that perfectly describes what you're about to hear tomorrow.

You can read the full review below, but most of all, listen to the album tomorrow. This album was recorded as a 54 minute improvised set at Nidarosdomen Cathedral in Trondheim. And the main thing about that cathredral is the organ that consists out of 9600 pipes that create vibrations that are so well used on this recording.

YODOK III is the moniker of the exciting collaboration between Norwegians Tomas Järmyr (also Zu, Barchan), Kristoffer Lo and the Belgian minimal ambient artist Dirk Serries (also Microphonics, Fear Falls Burning, VidnaObmana, …).

What you get is an experimentation of post-rock, ambient, improvised jazz, soundscapes but most of all a musical spirital journey that will leave you stunned.

After a decade of exploration into the invisible world—during which the band performed more than a hundred shows across Europe (including three tours, Hellfest, Desertfest, and Roadburn)—Wolvennest is back with a double LP: Procession. Those who follow the occult music scene will know what to expect: a strange blend of psych/doom with a touch of the darkness found in black metal. Massive guitars, synths/mellotrons, melancholic yet oppressive atmospheres, all wrapped in Shazzula’s hauntingvocals and theremin, lead a bizarre ceremony reflecting the consequences of a dark journey—one that ends in death and apocalypse.

Procession also marks the first collaboration between Wolvennest and the Belgian label Consouling Sounds. Mostly self-recorded, and mixed/mastered by long-time producer Déhà at Blackout Studios, this fifth album features artwork by Arts of Maquenda, who also created the Temple artwork in 2020.

Speaking of tradition, as always, Wolvennest welcomes guest appearances—this time featuring Hekte Zaren, the enigmatic voice behind black metal’s best-kept secret: Adaestuo.

Sects, curses, death rituals, and psychotropics create an eerie atmosphere, showing that the band is ready for another decade of sonic exploration, enhanced in live performances by surreal projections.

Procession describes a world where the cross is inverted, and portals constantly open, granting access to the invisible realm and to one’s other self. vocals and theremin, lead a bizarre ceremony reflecting the consequences of a dark journey—one that ends in death and apocalypse.

'The Genesis of Light' was recorded back in 2008 as a guitar drone experiment. The sessions, though promising, were left unfinished. Lost to the pull of other projects and the constraints of time. Years later, the recordings resurfaced on a forgotten backup drive. Their atmosphere still resonated deeply with Maurice. What started as a rediscovery became a transformation: most guitars were re-recorded, new textures and layers were woven in, and the original ideas were refined into something more immersive. The result is the completed vision that was once set aside. A work reborn from the shadows into light.

In contrast to the dense, harrowing soundscapes and unrelenting darkness typical of Gnaw Their Tongues, 'The Genesis of Light' offers a starkly different vision. Where most releases revel in suffocating intensity and nightmarish textures, this album unfolds with space and a sense of slow-burning radiance. Nevertheless, 'The Genesis of Light' remains steeped in the menacing aura that characterizes Gnaw Their Tongues.
