Dear sweet people,
20th of May 2021, a beloved friend Noëmi Ral, lost her battle against Covid-19. This magnificent young woman inspired so many people with her passion and determination. It was a real privilege just to have known her. She constantly reached out to help others. For her, nothing seemed impossible. On 17th of October, I will run the Bruges Marathon and I dedicate my run to Noëmi. Her favorite way to help someone in need was providing support to Rachael Mwikali and the Human Rights organization CGHRD in Kenya. Help me to run for CGHRD in honor of the truly wonderful Noëmi Ral.
My heart goes out to her husband, her little son, family & friends.

"The root causes of present-day human rights violations lie in the lack of recognition of the true scope of the violence and injustice of colonization," the U.N. Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent said in an interim report on Belgium.

King Leopold's reign over Congo from 1885 to 1908 was notorious for its brutality. After Leopold handed over Congo to the Belgian state, the tiny nation continued to hold sway over an area 80 times its size half a world away until Congo became independent in 1960.

The UN group says racism in Belgium continues today.

Racial discrimination against Africans "is endemic" in Belgium's institutions and the nation needs to apologize for the crimes committed during its colonization of Congo and make reparations, U.N. experts said Monday.

The effect of this experiment in colonialism was devastating to the Congolese: halving the population from 20 to 10 million in just 40 years – meanwhile Leopold II built palaces and human zoos stocked with his African slaves.

Few countries have suffered more during the transitions of international history than the Congo. After the Conference of Berlin in 1885 a pan-continental invasion of Africa put 90 per cent of the t...
