RECAP BTF DAY 3 ⛰ (FINAL)

Thanks to my two awesome assistants and we had a very good night in Cluses.
The weather forecast didn’t look good for flying so we knew it would be very hard to reach the goal from our position, but I was determined to give everything I had to get as close as I could.
In the morning, I joined my friends and .0 at the Reposoir and we started to walk together from there. We then decided to climb in the snow to launch from l’Aiguille Verte, in the hope to glide as far as possible.
Above Thones, we found a little takeoff and decided to push one last time to the top. We took off together and found a little thermal. Unfortunately, it only allowed me to cross towards the Sulens, were I was forced to land. With only 20min left on the clock and a climb of 700m vertical left to the next TP. My race ended there.

But the is full of surprises. A few minutes later I was joined by the one and only Gerald Delorme and shortly after by Tom, who had made cloud base but was forced to land as well due to the strong headwind. I really enjoyed meeting Gerald, and it was very funny how he and Tom were so excited to meet each other for the first time.

Stats of the day:
11km by flying
29km by foot
1870m D+

RECAP BTF DAY 2 ⛰.

The second day of the race happened in two phases.
The first one started at 6AM at the foot of La Sambuy. Together with Julien we waited for an opening trough the clouds to take off. We were lucky to find some early but strong thermals, which allowed us to fly further in the direction of the next TP: Perroix. We then walked along the lake and climbed to Planfait.
The second phase was the most important one, because we knew there was a big card to play. We had good flying conditions ahead of us and we knew it was still possible to reach goal that same day.
So, we took off with Dona and Julien and started advancing towards the next TP: Mont Chéri. The first part of the flight was really good, we managed to cross the big valley of Bonneville. But right after Mieussy, we got a little bit too excited by the sight of the TP and got stuck in a tight valley right before it. By the time we climbed to the top of the Mont Chéri it was already 6PM.
Nevertheless, we took off and found an unexpected and weak thermal at the top which allowed us to glide out of the valley.
To my big surprise, we could also cross the valley of Taninges and Cluses. Thanks to the valley breeze, we were soaring while watching the sunset, it was an amazing feeling.
Finally, I took the option to glide into the next valley and land as high as possible, to be in the best spot to start the next day.

The first day of the BTF was really exciting. It started with a climb to take-off at Col des Nantets. Followed by a scenic flight to Cret du Loup. Then things got more complicated with the strong wind. I could make two short flights but I covered most distance by foot. The goal was to reach the foot of La Sambuy, in the hope to take of from the top the next morning.
Stats of the day:
26km by flying
38km by foot
2100m D+
