From breakthrough technologies and new spin-offs to global partnerships, community initiatives and inspiring STEM engagement with young people, this year has shown what’s possible when expertise and purpose come together.
We celebrated the launch of new ventures that accelerate the transition to cleaner energy systems and smarter infrastructures, while major research collaborations — from green hydrogen and circular construction to pioneering work in carbon capture, battery sorting and sustainable energy — continued to push boundaries. Our teams also contributed to advances in health innovation, reinforcing our broader commitment to improving quality of life.
Together with partners across Flanders, Europe and around the world, we strengthened climate resilience, drove digital and environmental innovation and supported sustainable development from Vietnam to the US West Coast 🌍.
2025 was also a year of strong societal engagement: from STEM events that sparked curiosity in thousands of young minds to collective efforts supporting good causes and the move into our new EARTH building, which will anchor the next chapter of sustainable research at the VITO Sustainability Park. And recognitions such as the FAO Global Technical Recognition and international research grants reaffirmed the relevance of our work in regions and communities that need it most.
