President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday officially launched the government’s flagship poultry revitalisation programme, Nkoko Nkitinkiti, in Kumasi.

The initiative is not only a job-creation effort but also a strategic policy aimed at reducing Ghana’s heavy reliance on imported frozen chicken. As part of the programme, three million poultry birds will be distributed across the country.

Nkoko Nkitinkiti is designed to bring poultry production directly to the doorsteps of Ghanaians—into homes, schools, and communities. Beneficiaries will receive birds, feed, and other essential supplies to kickstart their poultry businesses, turning subsistence farming into sustainable livelihoods.

In phase one, each participant will be given 50 chicks, feed support, and technical guidance to ensure the success and longevity of their poultry ventures.

President Mahama emphasized that Nkoko Nkitinkiti, a fulfilment of yet another campaign promise, forms a crucial part of the broader Feed Ghana Programme, which seeks to ensure food sovereignty and shared prosperity.

“It is with pride and a deep sense of national duty that I stand before you in this historic city of Kumasi, the birthplace of enterprise and innovation, to launch a programme that addresses the heart of our national food security and inclusive growth agenda—the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Household and Backyard Poultry Production Initiative,” he stated.
