EXCERPT | Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh on Education, Research and National Development
Guest speaker Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh highlighted key contributions of governments in the United Party (UP) tradition to Ghana’s education and national development, noting that a government in the tradition introduced the country’s first comprehensive National Teacher Policy and, decades later, another government introduced the National Research Fund.
Reflecting on his tenure in education, Dr. Opoku Prempeh said he was determined to make Ghana a reading nation, leading to the expansion and doubling of libraries inherited from the previous government across the country. He stressed that reading, strong libraries, teacher training, research and education are critical instruments for national development, particularly in training, educating and equipping Ghanaians for the future.
