Road Trip to Lava, Kalimpong — Summer Escape in my Ford EcoSport 🚗✨
And why YOU should put it on your 2026 travel list!

This summer, I finally ticked something off my long-pending bucket list — a road trip to Lava, Kalimpong in my trusty Ford EcoSport - with .gulzarhai and Sreevalsan!

And let me tell you: the journey was just as magical as the destination.

From the moment I left the plains and started climbing into the emerald hills of North Bengal, the weather cooled, the forests thickened, and the air changed from “city” to “nature.” The EcoSport handled the winding mountain roads like a champ — steady, confident, and surprisingly fun to drive on those curves.

But nothing prepared me for Lava itself.

Imagine a tiny Himalayan town wrapped in clouds, surrounded by towering pine forests, with a peacefulness that’s almost rare these days. The Lava Monastery stands serene, prayer flags fluttering against the backdrop of mist. The Neora Valley National Park looks like something out of a dream — untouched, lush, and alive with the sounds of the forest. Even summer feels cool here, like a natural AC the mountains have gifted us.

Whether it was sipping hot tea in the chill breeze, wandering through moss-covered trails, or just parking the car to soak in the endless valley views — Lava felt like a pause button on life.

🌟 Why You Should Visit Lava, Kalimpong in 2026

1. Perfect weather: Even in summer, it’s cool, misty, and refreshing — ideal for escaping the heat.
2. Peace, not crowds: Lava is still beautifully quiet compared to mainstream hill stations. Go before it gets too popular!
3. Nature at its purest: Neora Valley is one of India’s most pristine forests — great for trekking, birdwatching, and photography.
4. Scenic road trip: The route is a joy to drive, especially if you love winding hill roads and hidden viewpoints.
5. Budget-friendly: Comfortable stays, good food, and stunning landscapes without the typical tourist price tag.

If you’re planning your travel calendar for 2026, put Lava at the top. Take a car you trust, some good music, and an open mind — the mountains will take care of the rest. 🌿✨

Jhalong is a truly beautiful yet hidden gem located in the serene mountains of North Bengal. It’s an idyllic place where you just need to relax and embrace the beauty of forests, rivers, gushing sound of waterfalls and winding roads of the hills!

I never imagined that I would be able to drive my own car right from New Town Kolkata to Jhalong along with .gulzarhai and Sreevalsan! It has given me immense confidence to take on more road trips to the mountains ⛰️ and wild northeast regions of India!

What’s your ultimate destination for such an adventure?

Grateful for visionary leaders like Abu Metha whose energy and commitment continue to elevate Nagaland on the global stage.

From transforming the Hornbill Festival into an international brand (onto it’s 26th year this time) to driving progress in sports, culture, and global partnerships, his work is shaping a brighter future for the state.
Proud to witness this journey and a privilege to have known him and work closely with him since last few years.

I also had the privilege of sharing the same platform as his at the Tetso College’s Annual Olympics in Dimapur. I was completely in awe of his motivational and inspirational speech for the youngsters. 🌏✨

I experienced the ultimate joy of a slow, relaxed riverside tourism with .gulzarhai at the .kolkata hosted by at their River Lodge in Burul.

Located just 60 kms from Kolkata, it is an ideal picturesque destination for daycation, overnight stays or simple enjoying the amazing sunset views overlooking the gracious Ganges.

Places such as this, spotlight the immense potential of river tourism in our state. Let’s harness these more and more for the tourism economy.

Pic 2: Meeting her at the same stadium in 2022.

Between these three years, she has grown a lot in her potential and has earned a spot in the Senior Women’s team in Nagaland.

She is also a published poet.

It was truly a delight to have met you three years ago and know you and your passion for the game!

Did you know that the sports tourism sector is a huge driver for India’s economy? Marquee events like IPL, ICC CWC, ISL are drawing tourists from far and wide.

Here’s a lowdown on what I felt about this sector while watching the India vs South Africa Test match at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The first pic was taken in 2022.
The second pic was clicked just few days ago.

Both of these were taken with Hony Secretary of at their fabulous Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima village, Dimapur.

I have developed a fondness, admiration and respect for the kind of work that he was been doing to elevate the profile of Nagaland cricket. The stadium now has a state of the art indoor cricket arena, fully functional multi gym, players changing room, swimming pool among others.

They recently hosted the Senior Women’s T20 Zonal Tournament under the banner of BCCI. I was fortunate enough to have been in Dimapur to have witnessed one of their women’s games. Amazed to see how far women’s cricket has spread in India.

Truly honoured to have received the beautiful memento from at his office.

One of their men’s bowlers have taken the highest number of wickets in the Ranji Trophy last year. Hope their players continue to bring laurels to the state. Would love to see one of their players in the one day in both formats.
