European Dialogue on Assistance: Meeting in Brussels with European Confederation of Care Home Organisations and Members of the European Parliament

Yesterday evening in , at the prestigious Cercle Royal Gaulois, a “fireside evening” was held in the presence of several members of the ECHO Board and Members of the European Parliament Stefano Cavedagna and Elisabetta Gualmini

The meeting provided an important opportunity for discussion on assistance at the European level, fostering constructive dialogue between institutions and sector representatives.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the global healthcare landscape, promising to redefine the way diagnosis, treatment, and care are delivered.

In Italy, this urgent need has been recognized by figures like Averardo Orta CEO of the Consorzio Colibrì and president of European Confederation of Care Home Organisations, who is calling for 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐈 𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, well beyond individual, albeit laudable, local initiatives.

🤝 High-Level Dialogue on the Future of Long-Term Care in hashtag

We are pleased to share that our President, Mr Averardo Orta, and two ECHO Board Members, Mr Meurer Bernd and Mr Johan Poel, met this week with a representative from the cabinet of Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi, European Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare.

This constructive exchange focused on the critical role of long-term care in the EU’s broader social and health strategies, particularly in the context of Europe’s ageing population and the need for sustainable, high-quality care services across Member States.

We look forward to continued collaboration with the EU institutions to ensure that the voices of care providers and residents are heard in shaping future policy. 🇪🇺

Last week, our Board of Directors met in , kindly hosted by our Spanish members at Federación Empresarial de la Dependencia "FED"
The meeting took place at the prestigious clubhouse Real Gran Peña, founded in 1869 in the centre of Madrid.

We had the opportunity to be joined by Mr Ignacio Fernández-Cid Plañiol, President of , who offered a new perspective on our projects and the main challenges our sector is facing.

He also brought to the attention of our Board members exciting new initiatives, including the organisation of a European Congress on and in 2026.

The meeting was attended by representatives from several European countries, including President Averardo Orta (Italy), Vice President Meurer Bernd (Germany) and Secretary General Alberto Echevarria GARCIA (Spain), strategic advisor Ilaria Giannico.

We thank our members for their active participation and commitment to promoting the quality and safety of care for the elderly and improving the conditions of the workforce.

Busy days for our Board of Directors who met in this week.

The new year starts with new challenges and opportunities for growth in our sector!

We had a fruitful discussion with MEP Elisabetta Gualmini and we look forward to strengthening our cooperation with her and her team.

We are glad to announce the participation of European Confederation of Care Home Organisations to a project tackling mobility and crisis.

We will also bring the voice of in to a new alliance that will be set up in the coming weeks (we’ll come up with more info soon!).

Last but not least, we are working on strengthening our work with the European Commission and the new college of commissioners.

The next Board meeting is scheduled for , Spain, in May.
