Here's something important:

You CAN'T meaningfully talk about progress if you don't know where the learner started.

That's why your PLOP and SMART Goal should connect.

Remember:

PLOP = current performance

Then your goal asks: “What measurable change are we aiming for?”

For example:
Your PLOP tells you that the learner currently:

>>> solves 3 out of 10 targeted two-step problems independently and requires verbal prompting for the remaining items.

Now you have a BASELINE.

From there, you can establish a measurable target.

Think:

BASELINE
Where is the learner now?
⬇️
TARGET
What performance are we aiming for?
⬇️
MEASUREMENT
How will we know whether the learner is progressing?
⬇️
REVIEW
What will we do with the data?

That's the part teachers sometimes miss.

A SMART Goal isn't just something we write and forget.

It should give us something we can monitor.

Because later, when you collect progress data, you should be able to look back and ask:

“Is the learner moving from the baseline toward the target?”

And if not:

“Do we need to adjust instruction, support, or the plan?”

That's why the quality of your goal affects what happens later in the IEP.

Okay, I already identified the priority need. So paano ko naman siya gagawing SMART Goal ngayon?

Kung walang IEP = wala tayong guide kung ano ang kailangan i-achieve ng isang batang may specific needs.
