Residents of Mpondezi Village are demanding answers after a senior military officer attached to MAFCO, Colonel Peter Ngoma, was accused of carrying out a violent midnight operation against two villagers suspected of cattle theft.
According to information gathered by newsaih.com, Colonel Ngoma allegedly arrived at the village accompanied by six armed soldiers. The officer is accused of forcing Mr Ligogo out of his house during the night before allegedly assaulting him and confiscating all his cattle from the cattle kraal.
Villagers claim Colonel Ngoma accused Mr Ligogo and others of stealing his cattle, but reportedly failed to provide any evidence to support the allegations.
The military officer allegedly proceeded to another suspect’s home, identified as Mr Matewere, where he is also accused of taking away cattle before forcing Mr Matewere, his wife, son and Mr Ligogo into a military vehicle.
Sources allege the suspects were taken to the MAFCO guardroom where they were beaten and allegedly subjected to inhumane treatment, including being drenched with cold water.
The suspects were later transferred to Senga Bay Police Station, where police reportedly ordered the release of both the detainees and the confiscated cattle.
Senga Bay Police had not commented on the matter by the time newsaih.com contacted them for clarification.
Colonel Ngoma has also not responded to questions sent to him regarding the allegations.
