In 2023, 281.6 million people across 59 countries/territories faced high levels of acute food insecurity, requiring urgent assistance, according to the Global Report on Food Crises 2024.
Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa accounted for 89% of the total number of food-insecure people in 2024.
