Rihanna's teacher bought her shoes when she didn't have any… Years later, the singer gifted her a house.

As a child in Barbados, Rihanna went to school with worn-out shoes, sometimes even barefoot. Moved by this, her teacher, Miss Roberts, discreetly bought her a pair.

Having become a global star, Rihanna learned that her teacher was facing hardships. She then decided to gift her a house and provide her with monthly financial support. A powerful gesture that shows how a simple act of kindness can impact a lifetime. 🙌❤️ (via People)

🔴Captain Ibrahim Traore: In last night interview, talking about foreign companies that come to Africa and get 90% of the resources while they leave you with the rest, Captain said that’s over in Burkina Faso 🇧🇫. He said that the resources are 100% ours. Now, we will decide how much stakes to give you based on what you bring to the table, he said. So, the State will evaluate what you’re bringing in and decide if you get 40%, less or more. Therefore, if you come to Burkina Faso 🇧🇫 with your colonial or imperialistic mindset thinking things would be as they used to be, you’re fooling yourself.

For many enslaved people in the United States, the path to freedom did not always lead north. In the 19th century, some looked south toward Mexico, where slavery had been abolished in 1829. This created a powerful contrast between two neighboring nations. In one, slavery was protected by law. In the other, it was rejected. For those who managed to cross the border, freedom was not something that had to be negotiated or proven. It was recognized.

This reality made Mexico an important destination for freedom seekers, especially from southern states like Texas and Louisiana. Escaping was never easy. It required planning, courage, and the willingness to risk severe punishment if caught. But the possibility of reaching a place where slavery was no longer legal offered hope that could not be found within U.S. borders.

The presence of free Black communities in Mexico, along with the country’s legal stance against slavery, made it difficult for the United States to enforce its system beyond its territory. In response, the U.S. government attempted to establish agreements that would require Mexico to return escaped enslaved people, similar to the fugitive slave laws enforced within the United States. However, Mexico did not fully adopt or enforce such policies, which meant that many who reached its soil remained free.

This difference between the two countries became especially significant in border regions, where the idea of freedom was shaped not just by distance, but by law and policy. It also played a role in broader tensions between the United States and Mexico during the 19th century, particularly as issues of slavery and territorial expansion became more central to political conflict.
