SMART CITY, SMART HERITAGE, SMART COMMUNITY - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
ERIKA MARION ROBRAHN GONZALEZ
(Lecturer / PhD / Researcher. Social Anthropologist & Archaeologist. Specialist in Social Innovation and Creative)
It was great to participate in an event about the Smart District in the port region of Rio de Janeiro (Porto Maravilha) and have this archaeological structure as a backdrop, which is part of the Cultural Placemaking we implemented in 2016.
This structure is integrated into a hotel and commercial complex, with open access to visitors.
Part of this area originally consisted of sea, which was later filled in for the modern port of Rio de Janeiro. Our archaeological excavations revealed a pier, a lifting ramp, two sunken vessels, and a collection consisting of anchors, cannonballs, stoneware bottles, and pipes, among others.
The initiative is integrated into the strategy of renovating Porto Maravilha, highlighting its unique cultural heritage in preserving memory and enhancing the Creative Economy, Tourism and Cultural Services.
Yesterday's event, the III Porto Maravilha Solutions Forum, analyzed the progress achieved and new actions to transform the region into a hub of innovation and sustainable development. The current focus is on the inclusion of new communities, with the provision of housing. This presents a challenge (and an opportunity) to integrate the traditional communities of the port region with the new inhabitants. Cultural Placemaking actions, based on the Cultural Diplomacy approach, can support these complex processes of urban social dynamics.

DINÂMICA DO HUB COMUNITÁRIO DE IA EM SANTOS, BRASIL: ENGAJAMENTO E INOVAÇÃO
"ERIKA MARION ROBRAHN GONZALEZ
Palestrante / PhD / Pesquisadora.

- The President of the Intergovernmental Council of the Management of Social Transformations (MOST) programme, represented at this meeting by the Vice-President of the MOST IGC, H.E. Mr Mariusz Lewicki, Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Poland to UNESCO.

The Governing Council convened on Wednesday, 19 June, to deliberate on and approve several key initiatives, including a UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES endorsement scheme, steps toward forming a financial advisory council, and the formation of new working groups devoted to mapping humanities-inclusive, community co-produced sustainability projects worldwide. A critical mission for BRIDGES is to make the outcomes of social and human sciences-driven sustainability research and action more accessible and useful to policymakers for shaping of better policies for transformative social chance.

The council also approved a Deputy Executive Director, Luci Attala.

Navigating AI Compliance in Humanities Research: Insights from Berlin

Lecturer / PhD / Researcher. Social Anthropologist & Archaeologist. Specialist in Social Innovation and Creative Economy in Disruptive Models; Smart Heritage Cities, Smart Territories, Smart Communities.

In Berlin, I explored one of today's most pressing regulatory issues: AI use and compliance in humanities research and projects. While studying these topics, I gained a deeper understanding of key legislations such as the EU AI Act, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the Digital Services Act considering their impacts on AI applications.
The necessity to adapt to these evolving regulations has led me to focus on this area, as I am convinced, they will significantly impact my upcoming projects and professional studies.
I look forward to continuing to contribute to the landscape of AI governance in the humanities.

Today I enjoyed participating in the 2025-2029 planning meeting at the Geosciences Center at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, my academic home as a Full Researcher.
I presented the progress of the Community AI Hub Project implemented in Brazil and Portugal, together with Dr. Luiz Oosterbeek.
We put an action plan to expand the project to other continents, including Digital Humanities tools generating scenario modeling in co-creation with communities to support the management of Smart Cultural Territories.
Excited about the new opportunities for dialogue and global action.
