Before I gained admission into the university, I worked under an Igbo businessman. that was where I truly learnt the art of sales and customer relationship.
I still remember one particular experience that taught me a priceless lesson.
There was this woman, one of our regular customers who owed us money. The day she was supposed to pay, we waited and waited, but no payment came in. Days passed. Then one evening, she walked into the shop while my boss wasn’t around.
As I attended to her, I calmly reminded her about the debt. She smiled and promised she would pay before leaving.
A few minutes later, my boss returned. I was expecting him to be upset and complain about her delay in payment. But guess what he did?
He walked in, smiled, greeted her warmly, played with her little boy, and asked how her business was doing. Only after all that did he calmly remind her about the debt.
That day, she paid the debt in full no argument, no tension, just mutual respect and understanding.
That moment taught me something powerful:
