In 1985, one movie changed the future of the Friesian horse forever. 🖤🐴

When Ladyhawke hit theaters, the breathtaking black stallion “Goliath,” played by a Friesian named Othello, introduced millions of people to a breed that was still incredibly rare in America.

The Friesian had already survived a frightening history. In 1913, only THREE registered breeding stallions remained. Dedicated breeders in the Netherlands fought to preserve the breed, but decades later, Friesians were still relatively unknown outside Europe.

Then Hollywood found them. 🎬✨

Othello’s flowing mane, jet-black coat, powerful movement, and fairytale appearance captivated audiences. Suddenly people were asking: “What kind of horse is THAT?”

Ladyhawke didn’t literally save the Friesian from extinction. but it helped introduce the breed to the world and sparked enormous interest in Friesians in North America.

Lately I’ve been thinking about how much more I appreciate the seasons as I’ve gotten older.

Living in Utah, my days change completely depending on the time of year. Summer has slowly turned me into a morning person. There’s something about cool air, quiet horses, and a sunrise that makes waking up early worth it.

Then winter comes and reminds me it’s okay to slow down, stay warm, and rest a little more.

I think every season has something beautiful to offer if we’re willing to notice it.

I hope July is kind to you. 🤍

Maybe that’s one reason why we love watching horses 🐎 run.

There’s something about it that feels like freedom, like choosing a direction and giving everything you have to get there.

I hope we never stop doing the same with the lives we dream about. 🤍
