SOFTWARE TIP - I had my first contact with 3D back when 1GB of RAM was a HUGE deal for a computer here in Brazil. Everything was made using poly modeling; people separated figures in body parts to sculpt details in Zbrush or Mudbox because the machine just couldn't handle an entire body in the viewport.
It was just back in 2014 when I seriously started studying when I attended to CGMA in the Character Arts program. But looking back now, I had the opportunity to test several softwares for modeling (my area of focus). 3Ds Max, Maya, Lightwave, Silo, XSI, Blender (since 2.49), Modo, etc.. Of course I liked some more than others and spent more time here and there, but overall I can say I had a decent amount experience with each one of these.
But then I bought NVil several years ago in a promo at Steam, mainly for retopo, but never used it. I use Blender a lot, I'm used to polymodel most things out of habit, and find ZModeler to be very bureaucratic (Maya too 🫣). So I decided to give NVil a go.
The software is just amazing for the task. I learned the basics in like 10 minutes, modeled some simple objects, lurked a bit in the forums, learned a bit more, and I'm actually using it to model stuff for commercial projects. 0 regrets. I guess Blender will be put on hold and will be used just for renders for a while 😂
I think if you have some money to spare, you should give it a try: https://store.steampowered.com/app/592350/Nvil/
