Lusaka man sentenced to life for murder of 10-year-old!

Lusaka High Court Judge Mwaka Mikalile has sentenced 27-year-old Harrison Chisenga to life imprisonment for the murder of 10-year-old Universal Kamushi of Lusaka West.

Universal’s body was found decapitated in March 2023.

This follows the court’s ruling that Chisenga was guilty of one count of murder.

In delivering judgment, Judge Mikalile said she was satisfied that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused caused the death of the child.

ZAMBIA HIGH COMMISSION REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR YOUNG LEGAL PROFESSIONALS

The Zambia High Commission in Nairobi has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting young legal professionals, as Zambia’s Deputy High Commissioner to Kenya, Mr. Exnobert Zulu, met with law students from Cavendish University representing Zambia at the 5th Annual East Africa Pre-Moot and Arbitration Conference.

The conference and competition, hosted at Strathmore University, has drawn participants from 18 countries. Organized under the Africa in the Moot programme, the initiative equips African law students to prepare for and participate in the globally recognized Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition, one of the world’s leading platforms for international commercial arbitration.
Zambia competed this morning in its opening round against Rwanda and is scheduled to face Lesotho.

During his engagement with the students, Mr. Zulu commended them for representing the nation with pride and encouraged them to remain focused and determined throughout the competition.

“You are not only representing your university, but the entire nation. Zambia is behind you. Stay focused, work hard, and make the country proud,” he said.

The High Commission has expressed confidence in the team’s capabilities and reiterated its continued support for initiatives that empower young professionals, strengthen legal scholarship, and enhance Zambia’s visibility on the international stage.

South African police investigate Lungu’s alleged poisoning!

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating the alleged poisoning of former President Edgar Lungu, who died on June 5, 2025.

Mr. Lungu remains unburied amid a protracted legal battle between the Zambian Government and the Lungu family regarding his burial site.

In a letter dated February 11, 2026, lawyers representing the Lungu family from Mmashele Attorneys denied the poisoning allegations, describing them as unfounded and unsupported by credible evidence.

The lawyers further stated that it has come to their attention that a subpoena was issued to Mr. Mpho Mnisi of Two Mountains Funeral Services, directing that the body of the late former President be released into the custody of SAPS.

The Lungu family’s lawyers described the subpoena as concerning, noting that there are existing court orders directing that possession and custody of Mr. Lungu’s body remain with Two Mountains Funeral Services pending the finalisation of legal proceedings.

They stated that the court orders are binding and remain in force.

Additionally, they submitted that leave to appeal has been granted by the Supreme Court of Appeal, and that the appeal remains active.

The lawyers argued that in the absence of a judicial variation or further order authorising removal, no person or entity is legally permitted to act inconsistently with those directives.

The Lungu family has since threatened to take legal action should the court orders be contravened.

LUSAKA RESIDENTS FEAR MORE LOSSES AS CYCLONE GEZANI TRIGGERS FLOODING.

With several areas still flooded due to persistent heavy rainfall, some Lusaka residents have expressed concern that more properties could be lost following government’s announcement of the arrival of Cyclone Gezani in Zambia.

Checks conducted by PTV2 News reveal that continued rainfall has already caused flooding in parts of Lusaka City.

The floods have forced some residents to abandon their homes and disrupting business activities.

In its Wednesday update, the Zambia Meteorological Department said it is closely monitoring the movement of the tropical cyclone, which made landfall on Madagascar’s east coast on February 10.

The Department explained that Cyclone Gezani is associated with wind speeds of up to 148 kilometres per hour and is expected to intensify rainfall across Zambia due to its interaction with the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone.

The Meteorological Department has since warned members of the public to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and remain alert for thunderstorms and lightning associated with the cyclone as it moves from Mozambique.
