Meet Gabriel, a fierce Vascaino, who loves to reminiscent about Vasco’s golden era at the end of the 20th century. Here is his story.

“He [Edmundo] and Romario had a love-hate relationship. They were insane playing together. But they were two huge stars. So they butt heads a lot. Here’s a perfect example of that.

At the time Vasco had a president that was like a mafia boss. Not actually, but he acted like one, and he used to rule Vasco like a dictator. Edmundo was destroying at the time. Captain. Number 10. Pk taker. And then Vasco signed Romario; he was coming back home, and the president ordered that Romario would be the new captain.

Edmundo went out to the press and gave an interview saying, “This is frustrating, I’m at home and this guy came and slept on my bed.” Romario gave an interview as an answer and said, “That’s his problem.” Next game, there was a penalty kick. Edmundo asked for the ball but Romario took it from him, and missed.

After the game the reporter asked Edmundo, do you think you should have taken it? He said, “No, he's the one that makes the rules. I was the only one training penalty kicks, but if the king wants the prince to take the penalty kick, he makes the rules." [referring to the president as the king and Romario as the prince]

The game after that they obliterated the other team and the reporters came to Romario and asked, "How’s the tension between the teammates?" He answered, “Now everybody is happy, the king, the prince, and the joker.”

They butt heads a lot, but during the 90 minutes, they destroyed for Vasco.”

Meet Jordi, a Benfiquista, who while studying abroad in Madrid, developed a special affection for Atletico. Here is his story.

“So I actually learned in my Don Quijote class this semester that Amor Cortes is this medieval knight and damsel in distress era idea that the knight fights for the girl, but the girl doesn’t quite love him or accept him, so it’s a frustrating love. This is what rooting for Atleti is.

If you search up their unofficial team song it’s all about being an underdog and suffering, but also loving everything all the more because of that.

So when I went to the game against Sevilla this past weekend and saw the banner I was like damn, that’s deep.”
