Being a Brazilian in the US I often felt misunderstood.

It’s common for people to think I’m too intense. What they don’t get is the culture I grew up in IS INTENSE and incredibly loving.

We give our hearts to everything we do and when it comes to football… it really brings us together. For a brief moment, nothing else matters. There’s something to be admired about that.

Stranger #16 : Kaliroi. From freegan to developing OCD.

After learning she’s an as*xual s*x specialist, she shared how when she was a teenager, she used to eat people’s leftovers. Freeganism, it’s called.

I had never heard of this trend before but was left fascinated by her good humor and honesty.

When you open yourself up to conversation, you get to for a moment be a part of someone else’s world. That’s kinda refreshing.

Stranger #17 and #18: Eleanora and Jack.

After this experiment, I can confidently say we’re one step closer to cracking the code on how to find deep human connection with strangers!

Twister has always been my favorite game and since I started these interviews I thought a shared activity could help break the ice.

Filming was chaotic and a new strategy needs to be implemented so I can actually play the game and record properly but Twister really was an amazing way to create instant intimacy.

The fact we had to think and balance our bodies at the same time made our interactions more honest, and we were just laughing for most of the time.

What a special moment we shared. I think I’m gonna have to do this one again!

Stranger #16: Kaliroi.

I saw her carving stamps in Central Park. She was incredibly open right away and clearly excited to be interviewed.

At the beginning I could tell she was trying to perform a bit for the camera. As our conversation went on, she started being more authentically herself and her answers became more and more intriguing.

How did we end up talking about s*xuality? I have no idea. That’s the thing about great conversation. Things flow and develop without you even realizing it.

It took about 20 minutes of talking to get to this point, which was a good reminder that I should take my time with these interviews. It may be a 30 second video on social media, but intimacy is also an investment of your time. Put a little effort and things can go a long way 🐜🐞🐛

Day 2 talking to strangers looking for deep human connection 🐣

It feels like I’m learning a lot and very quickly. Even as I post this I already recorded 3 more days of interviews and I’m excited about how much I’ll change by the end of this social experiment.

Asking really hard questions which are too deep can lead to amazing results, but for the most part it just gives people performance anxiety. Especially when on camera.

While last time I asked quite a bit “what was the greatest day in your life?” today I asked “what is people’s biggest misconception about you?”

It didn’t necessarily lead me to an intriguing answer, but it gave me clues on what to ask next!

All you have to do is be present and pay attention to what they’re saying. Sometimes the filming distracts me but I feel like I had much more personal follow up questions this time!

Stranger #15: Quinn. His kind soul approached me because of my rubber duck microphone! 🐣✨ I love when that happens.

He’s an actor based in Chicago who sometimes feels like his job doesn’t mean much in this world with wars and so much chaos… but bringing people joy is so needed right now.

Good theater, just like kindness, can really make someone’s day. He definitely made mine more special.

Stranger #14: Daria. I saw her journaling in the park so I suspected she’d be very self aware. I wasn’t wrong.

She’s only 18 years old and her dating life is already making her question if she’s as*xual. What a time to be alive!

A bad experience can really scare you to explore further, but I love that she’s reflecting and doing the inner work. Only good things can come from there. Proud of you Daria 🧡

Strangers #12 and #13: Kyra and Ann 🍓

They’re NYU students celebrating a strawberry festival!? Lol. I knew right away they would be super open for an interview though I must admit the chaotic event ambiance made it harder for us to have a deep conversation which is the entire goal of this series. I felt a bit awkward the entire time.

They both consider themselves introverts so it’s cool to see this fun way they’ve found to build human connection with strangers.

Maybe we should all dress as strawberries at least once in our lives. Though for me dressing as an inflatable shark was enough. I’ll tell you that story another time.

Stranger #11: Damion. From Buddhist to Christian.

When I approached him he was down for an interview right away saying “I’ve been wanting to try new things so let’s do it”.

Our conversation about God started because I loved his pants which had a custom drawing of the Garden of Eden. I then asked “do you believe in God?” to which he said “yes, I actually found God earlier this year”.

I was genuinely surprised. His tattoos and cool look made me think his pants were just for the aesthetic. I was so wrong and I love that.

Fun fact. he’s a professional dog trainer! So hit him up if you need his services in NYC 🦮🐾
