Knowing God Personally

What does it take to begin a relationship with God? Wait for lightning to strike? Devote yourself to charitable works in different religions? Become a better person so that God will accept you? NONE of these. God has made it very clear in the Bible how we can know Him. Here are Four Principles that will explain how you can begin a personal relationship with God, right now…
PRINCIPLE ONE: God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.
GOD’S LOVE
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”1
GOD’S PLAN
Christ states, “…I have come that they might have life, and have it more abundantly.”2 [A Full and Purposeful Life]
Why are most people not experiencing this “abundant life”?
Because…
SECOND PRINCIPLE: Man is a sinner and is separated from God; therefore, he cannot know or experience God’s love and plan for his life.
MAN IS A SINNER
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”3
Man was created to have a perfect relationship with God, but because of his disobedience and rebellion, he chose to go his own way and his relationship with God was broken. This state of independence from God, characterized by an attitude of rebellion or indifference, is evidence of what the Bible calls sin.
MAN IS SEPARATED
“For the wages of sin is death.…”4 [spiritual separation from God]
God is holy and man is a sinner. A great gulf separates the two. Man is continually seeking to reach God and the abundant life through his own efforts: righteous living, good works, religion, philosophies, etc…
The Third Law shows us the only answer to the problem of this separation…
THIRD PRINCIPLE: Jesus Christ is God's only solution for sinful man. Through Him you can know and experience God's love and plan for your life. HE DIED IN OUR PLACE
“But God demonstrates his own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”5
HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD
“…Christ died for our sins… He was buried, and He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He appeared to Peter, then to the Twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred.”6
HE IS THE ONLY WAY
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”7
God took the initiative to bridge the gap that separates us from Him by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross in our place, paying the price for our sins.
But it is not enough to know these three laws…
PRINCIPLE FOUR: We must receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord through a personal invitation. Only then will we be able to know and experience God’s love and plan for our lives.
WE NEED TO RECEIVE CHRIST
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”8
WE RECEIVE CHRIST BY FAITH
“For it is by grace you have been saved through faith—and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”9
WE RECEIVE CHRIST BY A PERSONAL INVITATION
Christ says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in…”10
Receiving Christ implies repentance; it means ceasing to trust in our ability to save ourselves, believing that Christ is the only one who can forgive our sins. Just knowing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that he died on the cross for our sins is not enough. It is necessary to receive Christ by faith, through a personal decision.
There are two circles representing two types of life:
The life controlled by “I”. “I” at the center of life. Christ outside of life. Interests controlled by “I”, often causing discord and frustration.
The life controlled by Christ. CHRIST at the center of life. “I” outside of the center. Interests controlled by Christ, resulting in harmony with God’s plan.
Which of the two circles best represents your life? Which one would you like to represent your life?
I would like to explain how you can receive Christ.
YOU CAN RECEIVE CHRIST RIGHT NOW IN PRAYER (PRAYER IS TALKING TO GOD)
God knows your heart and is more interested in the attitude of your heart than in your words. The following prayer serves as an example:
“Jesus, I need You. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for dying on the cross to forgive my sins, for giving me eternal life, and for accepting me just as I am. Take charge of my life and make me the person You want me to be. Amen.”
Would you like to receive Christ now? If so, pray this prayer and Christ will come into your life, as He promised.
What follows is a long journey of change and growth as you become more and more like Him.
