Battle Royale - Commander Tournament Info and FAQ

Welcome to Las Vegas the home of Elder Dragon Society's first large scale Multiplayer Commander tournament. This will be the official post regarding the tournament structure and format. If you have any other questions please respond in the comments or message the Elder Dragon Society's Admin team.

Tournament Format

Format: Multiplayer Swiss
The tournament will be multiplayer pods up to 4 players. 5 rounds with a cut to the top 16. Players with the highest cumulative points will be selected for the final "seed." The final seed will be in pods of 4 and single elimination with the winners of the pods in the see showing down in one final 4 player pod. This final pod will determine the winners of the prizes.

Rounds: 5 Rounds
Each round will last 75 minutes. In cases where rounds go to "Time" all players currently get to complete their turns until each player starting and finishing with the player who is the active player when Time is called. This means who ever is "Turn 0" Will get 2 turns and after their second turn the players with the highest life total will be be placed in consecutive order starting with highest life total. In the event of the players being tied with the highest life total once turns end a "Sudden Death" Rule will go into effect and the players who lose life will be eliminated consecutively until a winner is determined.

Matches & Points:
Players will be assessed cumulative points during rounds based on when a player loses or exits the game. The total value of these points area follows:
1st Place - 7
2nd Place - 5
3rd Place - 3
4th Place -1

These points will accumulate during the 5 rounds and your standings will be available to you at all times during the event. Players who have the highest total points after tiebreakers are calculated will be seeded into the final seed.

Rules Set:
The "Official" Multiplayer Commander rules will be in effect during the duration of the tournament with a few additional rules outlined in this Tournament Document. The official rules and banned list can be found at www.mtgcommander.net

Registration: $25 (100% of entry goes to the prize pool.)
All Players must register in the official event in the Elder Dragon Society fan page. In order to complete registration players have to RSVP for the event by paying for entry and registering your deck before the event closes. Players who have not submitted a deckles will not be considered registered. Registration will be capped at 64 players and no new players may register while the event has reached its cap but a queue will be maintained in a first come first serve order by reserving a spot with a private message to the Event Organizer.

Deck Registration:
Decks Lists must be submitted by messaging a text based deck list via Email ([email protected] ) or Private Message to the Tournament Organizer. Decklists will remain private during the event and their contents will only be disclosed after the event has been concluded.

Conduct:
All registered entrants must abide by WOTC Tournament (IPG & REL) Rules. The Rules and Infractions will be administered as if this tournament is COMP REL. These rules can be found here. https://wpn.wizards.com/en/document/magic-infraction-procedure-guide

Additional Rules:
These rules have been added to this event to encourage sportsman like conduct during this event. In an effort to make sure all competitors are given a level playing field in regard to play and ensuring skill will be the determining factor in games being fairly concluded, a few rules have been added and will be enforced along with the COMP Rules and the IPG.

AR 1.0 - In Game Conduct
During matches any behavior that could be considered unsportsmanlike or disruptive must be brought to the attention of the judge or TO immediately. The clock will be stopped for your game and the Tournament Authority will resolve your issue so arguing or events of potential conflict do not interfere with gameplay. Such events considered to be conflicts to sportsmanlike conduct are angle shooting, colluding, verbal disagreements and arguing, etc. These conflicts will be handled on a case by case basis when the IPG cannot offer a sollution.

AR 1.1 - Politics and In-Game Discussion & Interference
While maintaining the spirit of the format and in-game Politics is encouraged during Non Tournament Play, in this event collaborative discussion will be discouraged. In an effort to ensure skill will warrant a players victory no players are allowed to verbally collaborate during matches. Lines of play are able to be discussed and any game-state related discussions and banter are allowed, however no verbal collaborations will be allowed and a Judge or TO should be called and game infractions should be assessed. This includes Interference in a players play by encouraging them to make plays from any players currently not engaged in any gameplay (ala no abilities or cards on the stack, etc).

AR 2.0 Adjustments to Existing Rules
Some direct rules will naturally have to be adjusted naturally due to Competitive Multiplayer not being officially supported. These rules will be added at the discretion of the TO in an effort to promote fair play and any conflicts with additional rules added to the comp rules must be brought up with the TO to ensure integrity is maintained.

AR 2.1 Turns & Time
During "Time" players have a total of 4 minutes of active player time to conclude their turns. Each player in turns will be clocked once their turn starts and while that clock is active players will continue to play as normal. If spells or abilities are on the stack a one minute buffer will be added to each subsequent ability or spell being placed on the stack to buffer the 4 minutes the active player has to conclude their turn. This rule will also be applied during "Sudden Death".

AR 2.2 Players Exiting the Game
Players may exit the game at any time that they have priority and an empty stack with no penalty. In the event a player is intending on exiting the game for any non emergency situations ala scooping, when a player decides to exit the game in this fashion the game state is halted and all abilities, spells and an exiting players know game state is recorded by a Judge or TO. During this time "Snapshot" of the game state (Number of Cards in a player's hand, Cards in an in play zones, and the players life total and "Existence") Any cards on the battlefield and spells on the stack and that player for all intents and purposes will be copied and remain in play until the active player receives priority with an empty stack. Attempts to exit the game that would be deemed by a Judge or TO to provide an advantage to a player(s) will have penalties assessed relative to the infraction.

Chris - Aparently FB has Streamer support now. Would anyone be interested in watching me jam commander games to meet the 4 hour a week weekly requirement? If so ill set up right now. Ive been meaning to test some decks...

23/08/2018

InB4 we stole it from Marvel... that’s because we did lol Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery and Christopher is not creative lol Do you like? We should have a regular set of videos coming teaching Fundamentals. It’ll still be a while before we can resume Battle Royale. But for the time being learn how to sharpen your fundamentals.

15/08/2018

Anyone extremely confident in their Microsoft Excel skills that want to earn a spot on the EDS team? Christopher Taylor is not omnipotent like he thinks he is and needs help completing this project lol

Hello Everyone! The lack of updates are frustrating I know... but we finally got settled in to our new location. For those of you not in the know. The Society relocated to GA. All of the West Coast support will be active as far as events and the community but all content will be produced in the South. Itll take a while to find players who are skilled enough to participate in the Battle Royale videos but Christopher Taylor has taken it upon himself to do some work in the meantime. Here are some things we are working on:

* 5 Minute - Tutorials added to the YouTube channel weekly detailing some form of mechanics or playlines. In the beginning it will be fundamentals such as the stack, turn structrure, etc but gradually it will evolve into some archetype specific and commander specific videos.

* EDH Masterlist, a huge but awesome undertaking Chris and Richard had planned on doing for a while. Rather than waste everyones time with elitist nonsense like tier lists we wanted to focus on something more constructive. Tuning decks to their maximum capacity... even some of the unloved decks. So coming soon there will be decklists that will be posted here on the page pretty regularly and the community can actively participate in its tuning and Society members will actively pilot these decks and offer feedback so we can tune decks to their full potential. Notes will be taken throughout and eventually these will turn into primers so players can keep them going.

* Full Update of the TappedOut account and finishing of all the deck lists contained as well as the ability to allow Patrons full access to in depth primers for decks our members pilot.

* Videos of Chris' search for a local store in GA as well as misc videos posted at events.

* Page Activities and Content to keep our daily browsers busy.

* More Social Media Engagement.

* An Elder Dragon Society "Bazzar" where we can buy, sell and trade as well as where you can find sales and deals from vendors and retailers.

Thats pretty much it! Thanks guys for remaining supportive! If there's anything else yall would like to see us try to make happen drop a comment and well try to make it happen!

Just something to note about our gameplay videos. I got behind in commenters on YouTube. There’s always someone expecting cheating or unintentionally making a play error. Most of the guys we select for these videos have an immense amount of skill and experience playing.

We definitely appreciate feedback but even if there was a mistake, we would address it. First and foremost aside from entertaining we want to have people learn from our experience. You can save some time being meticulous and looking for errors. Christopher Taylor probably found them lol

  Hahaha They’re getting dragged already!
