MAKE YOUR CALLING AND ELECTION SURE

Key text: "For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." -2 Peter 1:8

Jesus desires that we continue to grow in grace. Adding grace to grace, virtue to virtue, thereby making our calling and election sure. Thus, we would abound in all the fullness of Christ, being fruitful and abounding therein. Every Christian should make this their focus - making a daily surrender and allowing Jesus to give them a growing experience in their Christian walk. As we abide in Christ, He will continually abide in our hearts and make us fruitful, and our faith will not fail.

Prayer: Dear Father, help me to abide in Christ that He may abide in me continually and produce abundant fruit for your glory. May my faith not fail; help me to make my calling and election sure. Amen.

CHARITY, THE GREATEST

Key text:
"And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness." -Colossians 3:14

The final step of the ladder is charity (love). God wants us to come to perfection - the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: the point where everything we do and say stems from love. As we grow in grace and the knowledge of God, the Spirit of God imparts virtues to us that brings us to such maturity that we love others and esteem them better than ourselves while we render loving obedience to God - this is the "bond of perfectness".

Prayer: Loving Heavenly Father, fill my heart with your love until my being is pervaded with your love and all I do stems from the fullness of the love that you have put in my heart. Amen.

THE VIRTUE OF BROTHERLY KINDNESS

Key Text: "Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another." - Romans 12:10

In the growth of our walk with God, where the virtue of godliness has been added to a patient spirit, courtesy and brotherly kindness will be the result. The Spirit of Christ in us helps us to be more considerate of the other person's feelings and conditions and to treat them with kindness and respect as children of the Most High. Pride is abased and we esteem others better than ourselves as the scriptures have enjoined us.

Prayer: Gracious Father, may the Spirit of Christ continually abide in me, leading me to be kind to others in word and deed. Amen.

ADD GODLINESS TO PATIENCE

Key text: For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. (1 Timothy 4:8)

Like Paul mentions to the Roman Christians, life's challenges test our patience and if we surrender all to God he will work in us His will and his good pleasure as this virtue of patience is strengthened in us. Patience by itself brings us to a richer experiential walk with God and interaction with others, and the experience is the godliness revealed in the Christian life. Godliness is an advance spiritual virtue, which reveals the spirit and likeness of Character of Christ in us.

Prayer: Dear Father, help me not to despise life's challenges but allow you to guide me through them that you may teach me patience and reveal in me the Spirit and character of Christ. Amen.

THE PERFECT WORK OF PATIENCE

Key Text: "Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. -James 1:3

Patience as a virtue is a fruit of the Spirit that is received after we have received the grace of "Temperance". Patience keeps us calm in trials; it helps keep our words and actions measured when provoked that we may say or do nothing to the hurt of others. The Holy Spirit is able to help us because we have come to the knowledge of the truth that being temperate, we are to stay away from things that encourage indulgence and lustful pursuits - we overcome appetite for stimulating and irritating substances that may hinder the work of the Spirit in our life.

Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for the graces of knowledge and temperance you have bestowed on me. Thank you that you Holy Spirit is working in your grace of patience in me that i may have the spirit and mind of Christ.

TO KNOWLEDGE ADD TEMPERANCE

Key Text: "And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness." -(2 Peter 1:6)

In the ascent of our Christian experience, we ought to grow not just in our knowledge but in our practice, habits, behaviours. Temperance in all things is required by God to bestow all other graces after it. Without temperance, our Christian walk will be barren, as the fruit of the Spirit will be lacking - patience, kindness, love, gentleness, and so on. An intemperate man cannot manifest these graces, and his body and mind are not conducive to receive of the Spirit.

Prayer: Righteous Father, I ask for a temperate spirit that I may be temperate in all things, making my body and mind habitable for your Spirit to bestow upon me His graces. Amen.

VIRTUE AND KNOWLEDGE

Key Text: "And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge." -2 Peter 1:5

After coming into faith in our Lord Jesus through the knowledge of truth, we are to advance in our relationship with him by diligently studying His Word. This knowledge is rewarded with a deeper knowledge and experience of God's grace and goodness, and this wroughts a greater transformation in our lives as we behold Jesus daily in His Word. Any Christian who does not grow in their knowledge and experience in Christ will retrograde; they will lose the grace they already received. "The progressive Christian has grace and love which passes knowledge, for divine insight into the character of Christ takes a deep hold upon the affections." (OHC 68.5). There is no excuse for an ignorant Christian.

Prayer: Righteous Father, help me to grow daily in the grace and knowledge of my Saviour Jesus Christ. Please give me a deeper, richer and a much fuller experience in my Christian walk. Amen.

CONTINUOUS PERSONAL GROWTH

Key Text: "Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, according as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue." -2 Peter 1:2, 3

True faith is not superficial. It is growing in grace. It is taking one step at a time on the ladder of Christian progress until we are brought to a place of full maturity in Christ. It is a life of progression and constant advancement in our knowledge and understanding of Jesus Christ and our walk with Him. As we faithfully surrender daily to Him, fixing our eyes on Him, we are, by the Holy Spirit, refined, ennobled and elevated, becoming shining reflections of the beauty of our Savior and our life shall be abundantly fruitful.

Prayer: Eternal Father, help me to exercise my faith daily in humble surrender to You that I may grow in my Christian experience till I become a reflection of the lovely Jesus. Amen.

THE MYSTERY LADDER

Key Text: "And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it." - Genesis 28:12

As the mystery ladder in Jacob's dream reached heaven while being set up on the earth, God's glory manifesting at the top of it while angels ascended and descended on it, so are we reconnected to God through Jesus Christ, that we may experience the glory of God. Christ bridged the gap that sin had created; He mended that broken link and now we can have access to heaven only because of what He did on our behalf. Our helpers in this journey are angels of God, who have been commissioned as Ministering Spirits to us that we may again be fit for the association of heavenly beings. That ladder may have been a mystery to Jacob, but it has been revealed to us.

Prayer: Eternal Father, thank you for making your dwelling with us even after sin had brought a disconnect. Thank you for giving us Jesus as the connecting ladder that we may once again have access to your divine presence. Thank you for the ministration of your angels, who are helping us in this journey that we may inherit salvation.

PURPOSEFUL LIVING

Key Text:

"Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves." -Philippians 2:3

Happiness is purposeful living. This is only found when we seek to live our life for God's glory and in blessing others. On the other hand, a life of selfishness is an unfulfilled life. You will never find happiness when you focus solely on you - what you desire, what others can do for you, or how you want to be pleased. This leads to disappointments and unhappiness as expectations of others will fail.

When our purpose in life is anchored on pleasing God and esteeming others better than yourself, seeking to bless them, we will truly find fulfillment as we see others thrive because as a result of our influence, touch, prayer and we also know we are living in the will of God. This brings joy, contentment, fulfillment and peace to the soul.

If we are unhappy, it is most likely we are focusing on self.

Prayer: Dear Father, as I live my life in service to others and with an eye single to your glory, may I find peace, joy, contentment, fulfillment and ultimate happiness in Jesus. Amen.
