OPEN FOR BUSINESS: Scores of government officials and industry stakeholders joined executives at the Royal Beach Club on Paradise Island today for the project’s official opening, fulfilling a commitment to launch by the end of 2025 after breaking ground in April 2024.

Prime Minister Philip Davis, Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, and former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis were among those attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Officials revealed that $165 million was invested in the 17-acre development, which is designed to deliver a premium beach-day experience for visitors. Executives also highlighted that the Government of The Bahamas holds a 49 percent equity stake in the project.

Prime Minister Davis said the government’s ownership ensures that the resort’s performance is directly tied to public benefit, reinforcing Bahamian inclusion in major tourism ventures.

The Royal Beach Club is expected to significantly enhance the tourism product, create jobs for Bahamians, and expand visitor experiences, with water taxi services planned to transport guests to and from the property.

ON THE DEFENSE: The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture and the National Junkanoo Committee say the group known as World Famous 1958 was only conditionally approved to participate in the parade, pending documentation to support any claim to the Valley Boys name.

Officials stress that allowing the group to participate — despite missing registration deadlines — did not validate ownership of the name, nor has any supporting documentation been submitted to date.

The Ministry and NJC say they acted in good faith, took no sides, and remain focused on fairness and protecting the integrity of Junkanoo.
