“When Honesty Becomes Cinema"
During a week devoted to global peace prayers, it felt fitting to end it by celebrating another kind of love—one born from passion, courage, and creative truth. I had the privilege of watching Lights, Camera, Action, the first directorial debut of Kuenzang Norbu, known to many as NOBS, a young, versatile, and deeply promising Bhutanese talent whose work in Pigs at the Crossing and the recent short The Bridge already hinted at something special.
I walked into the theatre expecting nothing.
I walked out completely in awe.
Kuenzang has written, produced, directed, and starred in this film—and what struck me most was the innocence and honesty that only comes from pure passion. Every frame carries his truth. Every beat of the story feels heartfelt. In an industry where filmmaking is often an uphill battle, he stayed loyal to his story—one that clearly came from within—and he held us there with him, fully hooked.
Lights, Camera, Action is not just a film, it’s a spark...
It signals the dawn of new voices, new storytellers, new possibilities for Bhutanese cinema.
If you have a free evening this weekend, if you want to feel refreshed, entertained, and perhaps even inspired, Please go experience this raw talent for yourself. Let it ignite your own lights, camera, and action.
