Rising prices have pushed pay revision back onto the national agenda. With living costs climbing, the government says a salary revision is on the way. During the National Assembly’s fifth session’s closing press conference, the Deputy Speaker said the revision would be initiated based on the country’s economic factors.

The Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (CCAA) has directed Indo Beauty and Spa in Thimphu to refund seven customers following allegations of false advertising and the provision of unlicensed Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) services.

Complainants shared the directive with BBS. According to directives, Indo Beauty and Spa allegedly claimed that its SMP services would lead to actual hair growth within two weeks of the first session, with full results expected after the second session. The claims were reportedly promoted through advertisements, social media platforms, and direct communication with customers.

The seven complainants collectively paid more than Nu 217,000 for the services. They alleged that they were not provided with official money receipts despite repeated requests and did not achieve the results they had been promised. Attempts to seek clarification and refunds from the spa were also reportedly unsuccessful.

Following an investigation, the CCAA found that Indo Beauty and Spa had not obtained the required technical authorisation from the Department of Health Services to provide SMP services. Under Bhutan’s Health Care Services Rules and Regulations, SMP is classified as a tattooing service and requires prior approval from the relevant authorities.

In its response, Indo Beauty and Spa denied the allegations, stating that SMP was marketed as a cosmetic procedure to fill scalp gaps and create the appearance of fuller hair, and not as a hair growth treatment.
However, the Authority ruled in favour of the complainants and directed the spa to issue refunds, provide complimentary pigmentation removal services, and ensure that official receipts are issued for all future transactions.

The CCAA said the case highlights the importance of consumer protection and regulatory compliance in the beauty and wellness industry.

Long-Term Scientific Warnings
EARTHQUAKE!!

The 300-Year Seismic Gap: Scientific studies on Bhutan’s geodynamics show that Bhutan has accumulated significant tectonic stress along the Main Himalayan Thrust fault. The last catastrophic earthquake of a magnitude 8.0 directly in Bhutan occurred over three centuries ago, in 1714.

The Threat of a "Big One": Because this tension has been building for over 300 years, geologists warn that an earthquake of magnitude 7.0 to 8.0 or higher is highly likely in the future. However, this "future" is a geological timeline, meaning it could happen tomorrow or decades from now.

High-Risk Zones: According to the national Seismic Hazard and Risk Assessment, seismic hazard is heavily concentrated in the southern belt and the urban centers of western Bhutan. Places like Thimphu, Phuentsholing, Paro, and Wangduephodrang face the highest risk due to high population densities and vulnerable building infrastructure.

Recent Activity: The 5.5-magnitude tremor that rattled Bhutan on June 7, 2026, served as an active reminder from nature. Government leadership, including His Majesty The King and Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay, have strongly urged the public to focus on practical disaster preparedness rather than panicking over rumors.

The Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) is aware of videos circulating on social media depicting an incident involving school-going children. The matter has been reported to the police and is currently under investigation.

As the case is under active investigation, the RBP urges the public to refrain from speculation, sharing unverified information, or making comments that may prejudice the investigation or cause further harm to the children involved. Due process of law will be followed, and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law.

The RBP further requests all individuals to immediately cease sharing, forwarding, reposting, downloading, publishing, or commenting on the videos, images, or any related content concerning the incident. The dissemination of content involving children in a manner that violates their rights, compromises their privacy and dignity, or otherwise contravenes the law may constitute an offence and attract legal action and penal sanctions under the relevant laws of Bhutan.

Individuals who have already shared such content are urged to remove it immediately from all social media platforms, and messaging applications.

The RBP appeals to all members of the public to act responsibly, respect and protect the rights and dignity of the children concerned, and allow the relevant authorities to conduct a fair, impartial, and thorough investigation.
