A terrifying demon named Shelging Karpo cast a dark curse over the valley, bringing drought and despair. Crops withered, rivers dried up, and fear spread like wildfire.

Desperate to save his people, Sindhu Raja turned to Guru Rinpoche, the great sage known for taming spirits and bending the elements to his will. When Guru Rinpoche arrived, he didn’t just fight the demon—he outwitted it. Through sacred chants and fierce meditation, he summoned the energy of the mountains, subduing Shelging Karpo once and for all. With one final blow, the valley’s waters flowed again, and life returned to Bumthang.

But here’s the twist—some say the demon was never truly defeated. They believe his spirit still lingers, hiding deep within the forests and caves, waiting for the right moment to rise again.
