Persons with disabilities need empathy, understanding, and respect but not the sympathy.

Whenever you see persons with disabilities around you, don’t judge them differently or react with the word “Ayee.”
Treat us with the same dignity, kindness, and respect as every other human being.
Life is uncertain, one day, anyone can face similar challenges and situations like us.

So choose empathy over sympathy, and understanding over judgment.

Twelve years ago, I had the rare privilege of a brief audience with our Fourth Druk Gyelpo. In that short moment, His Majesty gently advised and ordered me to build a family to marry and one day have a child who would not only benefit and bring meaning to my own life, but also to serve the people, the King, and our country.

Now with your arrival, that moment feels complete. You are not just my child, you are a quiet hope for something greater than us. May you grow with kindness in your heart, walk a path that uplifts others, and live in a way that brings good to our people.

May you always be guided and protected by the blessings of the divine.

Challenges faced by Bhutan Suk Raj Drukpa a person with physical disability: My journey has been filled with painful challenges. In school, I was called ‘half-man.’ Those words cut deep, making me question whether I belonged. After completing Class 12, I tried hard to find a job. I applied ten times, but each time I was rejected because of my disability. Once, instead of being offered work, I was told to stay home and do prayers. That moment broke me; it felt like society was saying I had no place in the workforce, no role in contributing. Life is unpredictable. At any moment, any one of us could face an accident, illness, or unexpected change that brings new challenges into our lives.
With that in mind, it’s worth choosing kindness. Instead of criticizing or discriminating, we can offer understanding, support, and simple human respect—because that’s what truly makes a difference.
