The 7.57-kilometre Gangri–Kadam Irrigation Channel in Chaskhar Gewog, Mongar, has been completed at a cost of Nu 35.123 million, funded by the Royal Government with financial support from the Government of India and implemented by the Department of Irrigation Development’s Irrigation Division.

The project was formally taken over by representatives from the Irrigation Division, Dzongkhag Administration, Chaskhar Gewog Administration, and beneficiary households.

According to the gup Tenzin Dorji, the irrigation channel will directly benefit 130 households and provide irrigation coverage for 78 acres of wetland.

The improved water supply is also expected to help farmers reclaim around 48 acres of fallow wetland that had remained uncultivated due to water shortages.

The project is expected to boost paddy production, improve agricultural productivity, and strengthen food self-sufficiency in the gewog.

The establishment of the first Eton International School presents an opportunity to introduce an internationally benchmarked curriculum.

β€œIt will enable Bhutanese parents to educate their children within the country instead of sending them abroad. The school will also expose local teachers to global best practices and attract international professionals who may choose to enrol their children there,” said Education Minister.

Another 60-bed mother and child health facility is currently in the pipeline, according to the Ministry of Health.

About 18 neonatal and paediatric specialists are now serving across eight dzongkhags, supported by three neonatal intensive care units with a combined capacity of 24 beds, all designed in line with international standards.

Doctor Mimi of NMS said the ministry is now focusing on strengthening skills and expanding training opportunities for health professionals.
