Update: The Dratshang Human Resource Commission, in collaboration with the Royal Bhutan Police, conducted a comprehensive awareness programme at Simtokha Shedra aimed at addressing pressing social concerns affecting Bhutanese youth and society at large.

The session focused on key topics such as crime prevention, the dangers of drug abuse, and the responsible use of social media platforms including Facebook, TikTok, and others.

Deputy Chief of Police, Crime and Operations, Colonel Passang Dorji also informed participants about the legal implications associated with various offenses and highlighted the importance of adhering to national laws and moral responsibilities. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of proactive and preventive strategies, as well as the critical role of the monastic community in guiding youth and fostering a peaceful, morally grounded society.

Bhutan’s disease surveillance system, NEWARS, has made impressive strides in 2024. Reporting rates are up, outbreaks are being caught early, and there is growing clarity on the types and patterns of illnesses affecting our population. This is, by all accounts, good news.

This year’s theme, “The Great Fourth’s Wisdom of Balance: Harmonising Heritage, Nature, and the Human Spirit,” marks 30 years of His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck’s visionary leadership in preserving Bhutan’s cultural identity while guiding sustainable development.
Held under the royal patronage of Her Majesty the Queen Mother Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, the festival continues its legacy as Bhutan’s first and leading literary event. It brings together writers, artists, and thinkers from Bhutan and around the world for open, thoughtful exchange.
