Students from the Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology (GCIT) showcased innovative technology projects today during the GCIT Tech Showcase 2026 held at the college campus in Kabesa, Thimphu.

Through exhibitions and live demonstrations, participants presented technologies designed to address real-world challenges and contribute to Bhutan's growing digital landscape.

The annual event brought together students, faculty, industry leaders, government representatives, alumni, and community stakeholders to explore solutions developed in areas such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, full-stack development, and interactive design.

The 7.57-kilometre Gangri–Kadam Irrigation Channel in Chaskhar Gewog, Mongar, has been completed at a cost of Nu 35.123 million, funded by the Royal Government with financial support from the Government of India and implemented by the Department of Irrigation Development’s Irrigation Division.

The project was formally taken over by representatives from the Irrigation Division, Dzongkhag Administration, Chaskhar Gewog Administration, and beneficiary households.

According to the gup Tenzin Dorji, the irrigation channel will directly benefit 130 households and provide irrigation coverage for 78 acres of wetland.

The improved water supply is also expected to help farmers reclaim around 48 acres of fallow wetland that had remained uncultivated due to water shortages.

The project is expected to boost paddy production, improve agricultural productivity, and strengthen food self-sufficiency in the gewog.

Another 60-bed mother and child health facility is currently in the pipeline, according to the Ministry of Health.

About 18 neonatal and paediatric specialists are now serving across eight dzongkhags, supported by three neonatal intensive care units with a combined capacity of 24 beds, all designed in line with international standards.

Doctor Mimi of NMS said the ministry is now focusing on strengthening skills and expanding training opportunities for health professionals.
