: Former Dorji Lopen Yonten Gyeltshen Found Murdered in Tshamkhang; Suspect with Criminal Record Apprehended

In a shocking and deeply saddening incident, the former Dorji Lopen Yonten Gyeltshen was found murdered yesterday in his Tshamkhang (meditation retreat) located in Talo.

The 89-year-old former monastic leader was a revered figure in Bhutan’s religious community. He served as the Drabi Lopen beginning in 1989 for eight years, and in 1999, he was appointed as the Dorji Lopen, one of the highest positions in the Zhung Dratshang (Central Monastic Body), for a term of three years.

Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a suspect earlier today in Paro. The individual is an ex-monk with a prior criminal record of larceny**, and has previously served time in prison. Investigations are currently underway, and law enforcement has yet to release further details regarding the motive behind the killing.

The spiritual community and the nation at large are mourning the loss of a respected Buddhist master who dedicated his life to the Dharma and the spiritual guidance of others.

MBBS Scholar Severely Injured in Zebra Crossing Accident at Zilukha

A 20-year-old woman, recently awarded an RCSC scholarship to study MBBS in Chittagong, Bangladesh, was severely injured after being hit and dragged by a speeding Creta vehicle while using a zebra crossing at Zilukha on the evening of June 9.

The incident occurred just a day before her scheduled departure for Bangladesh, placing her academic future in jeopardy due to a likely delay in her admission process. Authorities report that the victim was crossing the road when the vehicle, allegedly driven by a young woman, failed to stop and struck her, dragging her for approximately 30 to 40 meters. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene, with bystanders rushing to lift the vehicle off the injured woman to free her.

Miraculously, she survived without any fractures but sustained extensive abrasions and trauma. She is currently receiving medical care. Despite her injuries, the victim remains resolute in her pursuit of a medical career, stating her hope to recover swiftly and resume her academic journey.

Early reports misidentified the victim as a “young boy” due to her short haircut and attire, resulting in initial confusion that was later corrected by family and officials.

The incident has ignited a wave of concern and debate among the public regarding pedestrian safety and responsible driving, particularly around pedestrian crossings. In a brief statement from her hospital bed, the victim urged drivers to "respect zebra crossings and value human lives."

Police investigations are ongoing, with indications that the driver may have attempted to flee the scene. Further details are expected as the case develops.

In the hush of Ahmedabad’s noonday sun,
A silver bird rose — its journey just begun.
Dreams stitched in luggage, hope in every eye,
None knew the sky would bid them goodbye.

Above Meghani Nagar, joy turned to flame,
The heavens cracked, too stunned to name
The horror below — where laughter once stayed,
A hostel's heart in ash now laid.

Tables stood still with untouched plates,
As life dissolved in cruel fates.
Students, healers, kin and friend,
Met silence none could comprehend.

From London’s winds to India’s soil,
A world now pauses, hearts recoil.
A mother’s sob, a brother’s plea,
Echoes through this tragedy.

Only one soul walked through fire and night,
With shattered breath and borrowed light.
But countless names will not return,
And countless candles still must burn.

We, from the quiet hills of Bhutan’s grace,
Mourn each life, each empty place.
The sky above us weeps in grey —
A thousand prayers we send today.

To strangers now forever near,
Your stories etched in every tear.
Though oceans wide may lie between,
In grief and love, we stand unseen.

No wings should fall, no dreams be torn,
No child alone, no world so worn.
But still, from ash, let care arise —
